What are we looking for?

Lendlease Development, a leading global construction and property firm, are looking to recruit a Head of Legal - Property (Deputy General Counsel) to work within our Legal & Risk Europe team based from our London office near Great Portland Street station.

Our Property division includes Investment Management, Asset Management and Development Management.

Core Duties:

  • Work closely with the General Counsel - Europe, to ensure that the Property and wider legal teams fully support the delivery of the Europe Region strategy and to ensure that relevant issues are elevated to the appropriate level within the Property business and / or the Group
  • Provide legal support for signaficant transactions for property Europe, inclding;
  • Structuring of transactions; and documenting transactions to accurately reflect the commercial objectives and drivers.

  • Support the strategy & business plan for the legal function within Property which is aligned to:
  • Property Strategy & Business Plan outcomes; and
  • Regional and Group Legal strategy.

  • Most efficiently delivered using internal and external resources; and
  • Not duplicated between the Property and Construction legal teams or other legal teams within Lendlease.

    • Communicate and collaborate with the business in order to gain an understanding of pipeline projects, business unit strategy and priorities and resourcing requirements from time to time. Obtain regular feedback on the performance of the Property legal team and implement feedback as appropriate.
    • Champion and implement the Legal Panel for Lendlease, the "Golden Rules" for retaining external counsel in Europe and other process improvements from time to time.
    • Develop positive and productive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external law firms.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified as a solicitor or equivalent in other common law jurisdiction with strong academic background.
  • Legal practising certificate.
  • Minimum 10 years (for UK qualified lawyers) post admission experience preferably in a major law firm and/or as in-house counsel.
  • Experience in major urban regeneration projects, communities' projects, apartment projects, commercial (office and industrial) projects, retail property projects, acquisitions and disposals of land, entities and portfolio transactions.
  • Experience in all aspects of investment management legal issues including funds management, capital raising, trust issues, management of external boards, property acquisition and disposal, entity acquisition and disposal, establishment of new vehicles, unitholder issues, conflicts of interest etc.
  • Experience in relevant ancillary legal areas including construction, real estate finance, litigation, insolvency, funds management and conflicts of interest.
