We are a dynamic and growing Cloud Services business. The company has been established for over 17 years and in the last five years we have developed our own Cloud Platform and now are the sole Cloud suppliers to a British Overseas Territory. A vacancy has arisen for a Linux Systems Administrator in our fast-paced and growing IT company in Newbury, Berkshire. The growth of the business means that a confident, pro-active Linux sysadmin is required to build, automate, and deploy our cloud platform, and keep our systems running smoothly.

Personal Requirements:

+ Someone who is intelligent and bright with lots of initiative and who is incredibly proactive.
+ Someone who is willing and keen to learn new skills.
+ Someone who is a natural problem solver with excellent attention to detail.
+ Someone who is happy to take responsibility and see projects through to a successful conclusion.

Key Skills – Essential:

+ Linux – Strong experience in the administration and troubleshooting of CentOS and Ubuntu
+ Networking – Good understanding of networking (LAN, WAN), background with Cisco or Juniper networking equipment

Key Skills – Desirable:

+ SaltStack – using and creating formulas
+ VMWare – Administration
+ KVM / Libvirt
+ Open Source monitoring tools, eg. Nagios / ELK / Cacti / Prometheus
+ Python or Bash scripting skills
+ Docker / Kubernetes

Day to Day Activities:

+ Troubleshooting various networking / Linux issues
+ Being an escalation point for customer issues
+ Refining our cloud deployment and planning for future upgrades
+ Building and maintaining our internal infrastructure
+ Creating documentation when required
+ Liaising with various partners / vendors to get issues resolved

Occasional Activities:

+ Visiting one of our data centres to rack up new servers or perform networking upgrades

It is most important that the successful candidate has an excellent Linux system administration background, is a great communicator, loves learning, has a desire to gain the skills needed and relishes the challenge of working with cutting edge technology in a small team.

The role will be full time, Monday to Friday 9AM to 5.30PM. You will have opportunities to learn and develop a long-term and rewarding career while working with a great team.
