£40,000 - £45,000 DOE
Our team is growing, and we’re recruiting for a Financial Controller to take the wheel on the financial operations and infrastructure here at our Bristol HQ.
Swoop Travel is a 10m turnover, 22 person (and growing) travel company, specialising in trips to the ends of the earth, extraordinary destinations that provide our customers with a once in a lifetime experience.
Here’s the thing. We need a Financial Controller who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Sure, reporting and spreadsheets are impressive, and there’ll be some of that along the way – but we need someone at the coalface, driving and defining the policies and processes, optimising the systems, reporting on our results, offering an amazing customer experience, running the monthly payroll and taking ownership of the day to day goings on in the finance function.
But we also need someone who wants to progress. Someone who isn’t afraid to get stuck in, and wants to learn with us, as we undertake a journey of growth over the next few years. We expect that by your second year within the role, you’ll have a voice in the boardroom, offering strategic advice and contributing to decision making. That you will have built and established phenomenal relationships with the travel industry regulators and our incredibly important partner network within our destinations.
To support you with your growth, there’s mentorship on offer from Stephen King, author of ‘Finance on a Beermat’ and Managing Director at F-Works. Additionally, we run a weekly ‘School of Swoop’, an opportunity for the team to come together and learn from an expert.
There are also some brilliant projects on the horizon. We’ve recently developed a bespoke internal CRM, and we’ll want you to collaborate with our software developers to create the financial software system, innovating and designing the processes that will optimise the financial operations of the business. Within the first few months of working with Swoop, you will also recruit and manage a part time Bookkeeper as part of your finance team. It’s a busy role, and someone who loves taking on new and challenging responsibilities will flourish.
To be successful, you’re going to need some super human organisational skills. We need to know we’re putting our finances in safe hands, you’ll keep your eye on the ball, and nothing will get past you. You’re also going to have excellent communication skills, and not be afraid to challenge if you see where we could be doing better, or if something isn’t quite right. Also – we’re going to need you to be CIMA qualified (or equivalent) to move forward in this process.
In return we offer a competitive starting salary of £40k - £45k (DOE), a monthly bonus (based on company performance), 25 days’ holiday, opportunities to travel (alongside free travel insurance), oh and the best views in Bristol. Seriously – we don’t call our offices ‘The Condors Nest’ for nothing.
We’re a pretty active bunch. We love to travel and be in the great outdoors, so someone who shares our passion for fresh air and new adventures would feel right at home.
At Swoop, we work hard, but we have fun. This role might not be your average Financial Controller role, and won’t be the right fit for everyone – but if you could see yourself with a cup of coffee, overlooking Bristol skyline, collaborating with our Customer Service Champions to manage a booking amendment, or agreeing payment terms with one of our destination partners, following attending a School of Swoop talk on ‘The Geology of the Andes’, then we definitely need to hear from you.
To apply please select the button shown and make sure you include a covering letter of less than 500 words to tell us why you’d be perfect for the role, as well as a copy of your CV.
Applications will close on Tuesday 1st May. First stage interviews will take place w/c 7th May.
