Our South Manchester client is looking for an experienced Test Engineer who can oversee the electrical testing of a range of products. We are looking for someone who can also undertake other forms of testing such as; electrical safety inspection, radio type approval, flammability and mechanical strength.

A large element of the role would also be the documentation of all tests and procedures, analysis of results and the writing of reports.

With this in mind, we are looking for someone who has an excellent grasp of spelling and grammar, has a background in electrical testing, whether that be from the aerospace, rail, repairs industry or other, is irrelevant. Our client is looking for someone who can demonstrate their capabilities and who wants to work in a varied and challenging role.

Bear in mind that on occasions when products fail to meet the necessary criteria, you will need to have the ability to undertake additional diagnostic work. As such, a test engineer would need to be capable of assessing criteria and performing the relevant diagnostic analysis.

Main duties to include:

-Testing of electrical and electronic products for compliance and test standards using RF measurement techniques and electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, multi-meters and probes
-Where a product doesnt meet the requirements for electrical safety or emits radio frequency interference, you would need to provide consultancy services and if necessary design a custom solution to resolve the problem
-Compiling test reports, assessing technical files and performing peer reviews
-Calibrating equipment
-Researching new measurement techniques
-Administration of quality systems
-Client meetings and correspondence
-Designing custom electronic instrumentation in order to facilitate testing and provide a more streamlined customer service
-Assisting with reporting and any necessary documentation

We are looking for:

-A working knowledge of electronics (essential)
-Experience in radio frequency measurement and spectral analysis is required (the radio frequency spectrum analyser is a fundamental tool in EMC measurements)
-Ability to follow test procedures thoroughly and diligently so a working knowledge of quality standards/systems is essential
-Good communication skills and the ability to speak with customers face to face. (this would include explaining procedures to customers and discussing test results)
-Excellent writing and oral skills are critical as the reports created will form part of the mandatory legal documentation
-Experience using the following software would be highly advantageous: electronic simulation software (National Instruments Multisim), Mechanical Design Software (Solidworks), Schematic Capture and PCB Layout Software (Cadsoft Eagle, and Altium Designer)

For the right applicant there is scope for progression to a directorial position. This position bears a higher level of responsibility and a commensurate salary.

In return you can expect:

-Salary: up to GBP30k dependent on experience
-20 days holiday plus statutory Bank Holidays
-Hours: 40 hours Monday to Friday
-Pension scheme after probationary period
-Sickness scheme after probationary period
