An exciting opportunity has arisen with Thomas Rotherham College for a Teacher of Sociology (Criminology) to join the team based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. This Teacher of Sociology (Criminology) role is a full time position; tenable from 23rd August 2018.. You will receive a competitive salary of £22,937 - £38,364 per annum.

The Teacher of Sociology (Criminology) duties and key responsibilities:

- Teach on appropriate courses as directed by the College.

- Develop and implement a variety of teaching and learning styles.

- Provide student support on main site courses as appropriate.

- Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.

- Monitor and assess student achievement throughout their courses.

- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of appropriate Schemes of Work.

- Work with the other members of the Criminology and Sociology team to build team and cross-college resource material.

- Keep up to date with current developments in Criminology and Sociology education.

- Contribute to the development of the departments through team meetings and INSET.

- Contribute towards promoting a supportive learning environment.

- Participate appropriately in the College Appraisal /Professional Development Scheme.

- Other duties and responsibilities which might reasonably be required by the Principal.

Skills and Expertise needed to become our Teacher of Sociology (Criminology):

- Honours degree in an appropriate subject

- PGCE or equivalent

- Awareness of current developments in Criminology and Sociology education and training

- Evidence of having taken advantage of appropriate opportunities for professional development

- Effective verbal and written communication in both group and interpersonal situations

- Effective presentation, delivery and time management  skills

- Effective team working skills

- Ability to manage resources

- Effective problem solving skills

- Good level of IT literacy                                                                                                          

- Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people.

- Successful teaching experience with 16-18 learners, including the delivery of Level 3 courses (Desirable)
