Based in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, our client is a further education college that offers a wide range of courses including Full-Time, Part-Time, Apprenticeships and University Level. They aim to give all students an exceptional experience.

They currently have an opportunity available for a Clerk to the Corporation to join them.  The post is part time (18.5 hours per week) and will be fully accountable to the Governing Body for the effective governance of the Board and its Committees and the promotion of best practice.

The post holder will be responsible to the Governing Board for ensuring that its proceedings are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Statutory Instrument and Articles of Government, Education Acts, Charities Act, SFA Financial Memorandum, Financial Regulations, Joint Audit Code of Practice and other relevant legislation.  The post holder will act as the lead advisor on governance, compliance and related advice to the Governing Board and ensure that the Board fulfils its legal, statutory and public responsibilities.

Willing to take appropriate action if the Governing Board, its Chair or one of its Committees appears to be at risk of acting outside their powers, agreed procedures or to be proposing actions that may be unlawful or against the College’s best interests, you must monitor the College’s Whistleblowing Policy and Procedure and facilitate communication on Governing Board matters between the Chair, Principal and Chief Executive and staff in the College.

With significant experience of giving effective advice to a Governing Body and its Committees, candidates will have a background of managing change within a governance setting and significant experience in statutory compliance. A thorough knowledge and understanding of the statutory framework for a Further Education Institution, the Standards in Public Life and the role of the charitable trustee is essential and you will ideally hold an ICSA level 5 certificate in FE Governance or equivalent but this is not essential.

Our client requires an individual with the ability to lead, manage and promote the highest standards of governance, who can contribute to strategic planning and is able to determine priorities and make decisions, supported by excellent organisational skills.
