About Border Force

Border Force is a law enforcement command within the Home Office responsible for managing the UK border control by enforcing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. We have five operational regions responsible for securing the border 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at the UK’s 140 seaports, airports, postal depots and international rail network. We’re currently looking to recruit both Border Force Officers and Border Force Assistant Officers.

The role

We have a number of exciting opportunities where you will engage in a variety of different duties. At ports and airports, you will be responsible for checking 100% of passengers arriving on scheduled flights for immigration control purposes and you will intercept controlled substances or items and prohibited goods. You might also support with Radiological Nuclear Detection, counter terrorism and human trafficking, which may require working across sites. As well as the more active element of the role, you will conduct casework, gather information and make clear notes for evidential purposes, and ensure arrangements are made for the issuing of appropriate documentation.

What we are looking for

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong sense of personal ethics and honesty. With a variety of different duties available, you will be flexible, adaptable and good at dealing with change. You will enjoy dealing with colleagues and members of the public and will be good at building relationships, communicating and working as part of a team.

This role is only open to UK Nationals and it’s important that you are able to get to the port or airport, even when public transport is not running. The role can be physically demanding, so you will need to have a certain level of fitness and you will be required to pass Home Office level security clearance.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications: 22 April 2018.
