What do we do?
Our Finance function manages and report on budgets of cGBP14bn. We currently have vacancies in two of our Finance Teams with finance professional roles available in Management Accounting, Corporate Reporting and Financial Planning.

1. Accounting Operations Unit:
The Accounting Operations Unit (AOU) is led by the Group Financial Controller; leads key consolidated finance functions and is responsible for accountancy; production of the department's interim and final consolidated annual report and accounts; consolidated management reporting and is the lead on processing of transactions and key finance processes.

Working closely with Business colleagues and Finance Business Partners, you will play an integral role in successfully managing the Home Office's Value for Money agenda and will constantly seek to identify opportunities to improve processes and ways of working.

Your team will be responsible for supporting the Home Office's Principal Accounting Officer by driving strong financial management and governance, including the provision of assurance to the Executive Management Board, the Supervisory Board, and HM Treasury. You will be responsible for ensuring that Home Office financial resources are managed effectively.

2. Financial Planning & Programme Unit:
The Financial Planning and Programme Unit (FPPU) is a consolidated function, with the overarching objectives of securing the future funding requirements for the Home Office; ensuring resources are allocated to ministerial priorities; supporting the Department to achieve maximum value for money (VfM); and supporting corporate level strategic decision making and analysis. To these ends FPPU leads on the relationship with HM Treasury and the efficiency work led by the Cabinet Office. The Unit leads the production of medium term financial plans, working with finance business partners to test and review assumptions and efficiency plans, and leads planning and negotiations for Spending Reviews and other fiscal events.

You will support the FPPU team and lead on the financial oversight of the Department's challenging and technically complex transformation portfolio, with a commitment to invest more than GBP1bn over the current Parliament. To achieve this you will be part of a team leading on the financial planning and reporting of the portfolio and ensuring integrity is maintained throughout its life cycle.

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to successfully foster and manage inter-relationships between own team and other areas.
  • A proven track record of providing high quality financial analysis and advice across a wide range of complex business and financial issues, with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Work confidently with financial data and systems when making decisions; interpret trends, issues and risks and where appropriate investment appraisals.
  • Intermediate to advanced excel skills

    Desirable Criteria:

  • CCAB or CIMA qualified or part qualified or currently studying for one of these qualifications
  • Good knowledge of public sector finance processes and procedures.
  • Experience of using Adelphi Business Intelligence.
  • Leadership skills

    Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check .

    Selection process details

    As part of the application process you will be asked to complete a CV and Personal Statement of Suitability. Further details around what this will entail are listed on the application form.

    Please note that the CV and Statement of Suitability must clearly demonstrate evidence of the Essential Criteria for you to be progressed to interview stage.

    After submission of your application you will be invited to complete two online tests (Verbal Reasoning & Numerical Reasoning tests). You must be successful at each stage to progress to the next test. Please complete the online tests as soon as possible (within 24-48 hours is recommended), the closing date for the tests is Midnight on 01/05/2018.

    The tests are taken online and we will send you an invitation and will provide full instructions on how to complete the tests, for further guidance please refer to test guidance below.

    An initial sift of your CV and Statement of Skills and Experience will be conducted against the Essential Criteria for those who pass the online tests.

    Applicants with the strongest evidence of the essential criteria will be invited to interview.

    The interview stage will consist of two stages:

  • A CV based interview;
  • A 5 minute presentation. You will be given the topic when invited to interview to enable you to prepare in advance.

    Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
