Our client is a new company and it is an extremely exciting time for the region, with ambitious plans for growth and regeneration underway and the City of Culture and Commonwealth Games taking place in 2021 and 2022. It is also an exciting time for the company as the Combined Authority delivers a £1.3 billion investment plan set to significantly expand the tram network, bringing even greater connectivity to people, places and business. As a result they are looking to recruit an experienced Head of Engineering to support the delivery of this major expansion programme, helping to deliver a safe and reliable public transport operation through a period of continuous change and growth.
As Head of Engineering you will strategically manage the engineering function providing direction and leadership to the team and acting as the engineering interface for any major upgrade projects. You will be responsible for all operational engineering safety and the delivery of the maintenance and lifecycle plans in line with the Passenger Services Contract. You will set and manage departmental budgets, taking responsibility for engineering project development, procurement and implementation with regards to improvements in safety, reliability, capacity and financial efficiency, in addition to overseeing the implementation of an ISO55001 compliant asset management system.
The ideal candidate will have substantial engineering knowledge with experience in an operational engineering management role gained in the rail or light rail industry, with experience of managing projects teams and people and developing a highly skilled engineering department.
