Our client is one of the World’s largest manufacturers of glass and glazing products for Architectural, Automotive and Technical Glass sectors.

Founded in 1918, the Company has combined sales of just over JPY 629 billion, with manufacturing operations in 28 countries, sales in 130 countries, and employs some 27,000 people worldwide.

The position is based within the Thin Film Technology Resource Team based at the European Technical Centre.  The Thin Film Technology group is part of the global R&D function and is responsible for developing new added value functional coatings on glass and the development of new coating technologies for architectural, automotive and technical glass applications.

The Advanced / Senior Technologist will work as part of a team investigating new coatings deposited by chemical vapour deposition as well as new coating technologies.  The nature of this work will be split between short term incremental development and longer term broader research led work.  The candidate will be responsible for leading the deposition and screening of new coatings using laboratory equipment and a wide range of analytical techniques both within the group and in conjunction with their in house analytical section.  They will also be involved in the scale up activities, working in the manufacturing facilities.

An innovative, self-motivated team player, you will enjoy an active involvement in development and problem-solving activities and will work within a multi-national and multi-functional project team environment using a stage gate development process.  Some travel to their other technical sites and manufacturing facilities across the globe is anticipated.

Candidates must have a degree, ideally in chemistry, material science or physics and some thin film coating related post-graduate or industrial experience. Consideration will be given to candidates having degrees in other disciplines with relevant Post-graduate or industrial experience in coating deposition techniques such as chemical vapour deposition, sputter deposition or sol gel coating.  Experience of using Microsoft Applications and willingness to travel abroad are essential.

Ability to speak foreign languages would be an advantage. A full UK driving licence and car ownership would be an advantage due to limited public transport to the site.
