The Design & Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation. This team is also responsible for researching the best materials, at the best cost.

In terms of design, there's the sheer variety of our sites, many of them brownfield and all of them with unique problems to solve. Our drive for sustainability, value and ever changing building and environmental legislation means that innovative and unique solutions are required. Most of the people in this team have an architectural or engineering background, and for all, we offer the opportunity to gain expertise in design and project management in a challenging thought-provoking setting.

Summary of the Role:

To co-ordinate external design consultants, discharging planning conditions, ensuring mains services are procured, obtain building control approvals, providing Construction Issue drawings for site starts.

What will I be responsible for:
  • Obtaining Technical Drawings to enable efficient site starts.
  • Gain approvals to ensure that sites commence on time.
  • Minimising risk through uncoordinated information.
  • Oversee preparation of the optimisation plans through to approval.
  • Brief and drive the external consultants in the preparation and issue of production information to an agreed programme, fee and scope.
  • Prepare technical specifications in line with requirements determined by the Land Acquisition budget and Technical/Sales Meetings.
  • Attend site progress meetings and carry out site inspection.
  • Attend meetings at various stages of projects (Land/Technical hand-over, Project Meeting, Optimisation, Progression, Technical/Sales, Budget Meetings, etc.
  • Ensuring current drawings are filed in order.


Personal characteristics/ qualifications and skills:
  • Able to liaise with external bodies (Councils, NHBC, EA etc.) as well as provide a flow of information to the Commercial, Construction and Sales teams managers.
  • Handle internal pressures to start a site too quickly against minimising risk both financially and on Health and Safety Grounds.
  • Administration skills needed as well as detailed Construction Knowledge and an understanding of Building Regulations. Either through internal Training or external accreditation (HNC/Degree etc.) preferably both this is a key role and very difficult to fill.
