The Mission of the Cambridge Graphene Centre is to investigate the science and technology of graphene and related materials. This engineering innovation centre allows partners to meet and establish joint industrial-academic activities to promote innovative and adventurous research with an emphasis on applications. At present there are around 120 people in the CGC.
The CGC also hosts the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Graphene Technology. The CDT works closely with industry to ensure that successful students are properly equipped to follow careers in both industry and academia.
We are seeking an administrator to join the team of staff to ensure the delivery of Centre's operational needs. The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- All aspects of financial management
- Providing a wide range of administrative services
- Dealing with HR related matters for research staff, including organising interviews, filling interview reports, dealing with visa matters, organizing probation meetings, etc.
- Co-ordinating and planning all the CGC meetings, workshops and seminars and taking the role of convenor and minute secretary, arranging and updating webpages, etc.
The role-holder will play a crucial part in the development and implementation of processes and procedures for the financial management and coordination of tens of concurrent projects and sub projects with an overall budget of tens of millions of pounds (but with individual budgets ranging from a few k£ to a few M£, and a variety of different financial and reporting rules), plus in-kind and other contributions from research and industrial partners. An essential task is to ensure full expenditure and reporting in each grant, according to the funding body rules, as well as monitoring of current expenditure, including all stipends, and budgeting of future expenditure. The post-holder will act as the key point of contact and fielding for all communications relating to the CGC financial and administrative activity, ensuring a timely response to all requests arriving to the centre and compliance with tight deadlines.
The successful applicant will be educated to at least degree level, have a proven track-record in building effective relationships with funders. Hands-on experience of budgeting, grant applications and other administrative tasks in a research-led environment is mandatory, including the use of finance reporting tools, such as X5, EMDESK, and others. Experience of working as part of a (ideally senior) administrative team with budgetary responsibility and accountability for group and individual performance is highly desirable.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
