LOCATION: Tarleton near Preston, Lancashire

SALARY & BENEFITS: Competitive salary

WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday, Seasonal (Between the hours of 0600 - 1800). Saturdays and Sundays will be required at peak times.

THE COMPANY: Our client, established over 70 years ago, is the largest and most successful root producers in the UK with roughly 500 staff. They specialise in specialise in growing, packing and distributing a variety of root vegetables, brassicas and salads.

Supplying some of the major supermarkets in the UK as well as independent retailers, wholesalers, food service, caterers and food manufacturing sectors standards are consistently very high, and a strong management team ensure these standards are maintained at all times.

THE ROLE: Our client has a fantastic National Salad & Brassica Farm Manager position available in the North West.

They are looking for a multi-skilled and experienced farm manager to manage all salad and brassica planting, growing and harvesting operations.

Within a fast-paced farming environment, the National Salad & Brassica Farm Manager works closely with the Harvesting Manager, Assistant Farm Manager & Production Managers, whilst reporting to the Operations Director & Managing Director.

The National Salad & Brassica Farm Manager runs the farm, outside of the Harvesting function.

Within a small, dynamic team of Farm Technicians you would be expected to manage the Lancashire Farming network from drilling to seeding to harvesting given the supply expectations of the Head Office.

Key Responsibilities of a National Salad and Brassica Farm Manager to include:-
  • Manage and maintain an efficient farm
  • Manage all farm staff (35 - 70 staff)
  • Management and control of all costs associated with the farming activities
  • Ensure smooth running of all functions within the farm
  • Manage and motivate staff effectively
  • Report on farm performance according to company requirements
  • Attend training and develop relevant knowledge and skills
  • Ensure all farm staff are fully trained
  • Communicate company strategy and policies effectively to all farm staff
  • Improve and maintain a high level of health and safety
  • Comprehensive control of stock and chemicals
  • Maximise the farming efficiencies
  • Management and maintenance of all farm equipment
  • Maintain the service records of all of the farming equipment
  • Provide an efficient and effective service
  • Conversant with the Health & Safety procedures and fully observe the safety rules.
  • Ensure that H & S working practices are adhered to within your farming staff
  • Ensure that farming methods are always the best most efficient use of, keeping abreast of the new ways of working etc.

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will have will have previous experience working in a similar role or environment. Our client requires someone who has a passion for farming and loves being around people and outdoors. The successful National Salad & Brassica Farm Manager will have good attention to detail and excellent written and verbal skills. Our client is looking for someone who is a self-starter with a 'can do' attitude in their approach to the working day.

Key experience essential for the role of National Salad & Brassica Farm Manager based in Tarleton near Preston, Lancashire:
  • Must live within a commutable distance of Tarleton near Preston, Lancashire
  • Will hold a full UK driving licence with the entitlement to drive a Desirable Tractor
  • Will have previous experience within farm management with experience of agricultural farming (ideally salads and brassicas)
  • Will ideally have at least 5 years farming experience
  • Will ideally have some experience with salad / brassica growing and harvesting
  • PA1 and PA2 qualifications with spraying experience is desirable
