Permanent, Full Time (35 hours per week)

Gateway Housing Association is a locally based housing association with over 2,800 homes in and around Tower Hamlets for people in housing need.  We provide homes for social rent, shared ownership and leasehold accommodation.  We are also the largest provider of sheltered housing in the borough.

We are looking for an experienced, proactive individual to be responsible for maximising the organisations income collection. You will be responsible for the chasing outstanding arrears and ensuring all payments are accounted for.  

The Income Recovery Officer should be able to have excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate clearly and persuasively. You must be good at problem solving and able to meet tight deadlines.

Effectively you will carry out regular home visits to residents in rent arrears to provide or ensure they are receiving advice and support. Other duties will include being familiar with and keeping up-to-date with legislative and regulatory requirements for rent and service charges. Further to this you will also maximise income from rents and/or service charges by ensuring prompt payment of all income due, including former accounts.

Professional and friendly with your approach you must have strong experience of court action and court appearance along with sound knowledge of housing benefit and welfare advice. An understanding of housing law and experience of rent registration for fair rent tenancies is also required. Computer skills, ideally within a housing management system and an understanding of working in debt recovery or for a registered social landlord, local authority or voluntary sector organisation is essential.

Due to the nature of the role you must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
A basic DBS is required.
