This Role Profile describes the main areas of responsibility associated with this post along with the knowledge, skills and experience required of the post holder. In addition it describes the key activities and behaviours that the Constabulary expects all employees at this grade to be able to perform and demonstrate. In performing this particular role you may not be required to carry out or demonstrate all of the activities and behaviours described below, however you must be capable of doing so as the post-holder will be required from time to time to contribute to Organisational Objectives which may not be directly related to this role profile.
The Constabulary operates a rigorous vetting policy and applicants and employees must be aware that personal vetting will be applied as part of their recruitment and ongoing employment with the Constabulary.
Requirements:
- Vetting Level: Force Personnel will be vetted to the minimum Police Basic Check (PBC). A higher level of vetting may be required for certain roles or grades and suitable clearance will be required before appointment or deployment.
- Mobility: The Force reserves the right to request you to carry out any other duties or move you to any other post appropriate to your grade, at any location within the county of Gloucestershire, as business requirements dictate.
- Working Pattern: Normal working hours will average 37 per week or will be pro rata. This will be worked subject to the needs of the service and may involve shift, night, weekend and public holiday working. In working with the Community this role will
require flexibility to attend meetings outside of standard business hours. - Standards of Professional Behaviour: All members of Police Staff / Police Officers must comply with these standards.
- Travel / Driving License: The post holder will be required to travel to meetings around the county preferably using own transport.
- Training and development: Undertake the required training and development to maintain working knowledge.
Minimum Criteria:
- Minimum of 3 years light vehicle diagnosis and repair experience with at least 2 years as a fully skilled auto-technician.
- Trained to a minimum Modern Apprenticeship NVQ level 3 in Motor Vehicle Craft Studies or equivalent.
- Good diagnostic skills in engine management systems, vehicle electrical systems and general mechanical principals and experience using computerised diagnostic equipment.
- Proven supervisory skills and experience with the ability to motivate staff.
- Good knowledge of Health and Safety within the Workshop environment, preferably with certificated training.
- Experienced in the following types of welding (Gas, MIG and Arc).
- Good working knowledge of vehicle legislation concerning Road Vehicles
- Registered in the Department of Transport’s list of approved vehicle testers (Mot) is desirable.
- Experience of costing/timing work using Autodata or equivalent information system.
- Good administration skills.
- Experience of using computerised workshop information and management systems
- Strong communication skills at all levels.
- Strong interpersonal skills – able to deal effectively with people at all levels with tact and diplomacy.
- Hold a current driving licence that enables the holder to legally drive vehicles up to 7.5 Tonnes.
- Computer literacy would be an advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure and a flexible adaptable approach.
Main Responsibilities:
The post holder will be responsible for the supervision of the fleet workshop and staff.
1.Ensure all vehicles are serviced to a safe and cost effective standard, through the correct diagnosis of faults and the efficient repair using the appropriate parts
2.Directly manage the workshop staff, providing support, guidance and assistance and ensuring job chats and epdrs are completed
3.Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and legislation, including Health and Safety and Environmental management
4.Adhere to health and safety, environmental management and data protection
5.Directly supervise and control the workshop by organising the daily workload
6.Ensure administration processes and documents are completed in the relevant timescales including job sheets
7.Advise/assist the stores administrator when required
8.Ensure any issues/concerns are reported to the workshop manager
9.Ensure all workshop tools are available and properly maintained
10.Ensure workshop housekeeping and a high level of security are maintained
11.Ensure battery store is maintained and batteries are charged ready for use
12.Working with the Workshop Manager to manage warranty issues and claims on a day to day basis
13.Monitor external work and report any issues to the Workshop Manager
14.Liaise with workshop manager to maintain staff training and development opportunities
15.Deputise for the workshop manager as required
