Red Flag Recruitment are looking for an experienced Flood Risk Manger for a company based in Brighton, Sussex.

This will be for Maternity cover and for an Immediate start

The purpose of the job -

To deliver statutory flood management duties outlined in the Flood and Water Management Act (2010) and Flood Risk Regulations (2009) on as Lead Local Flood Authority.

Salary -

Up to GBP35/hr (depending on experience)

The Role

  • Develop and maintain effective processes for flood reporting, recording and investigation, as per the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.
  • Lead small/medium specialist flood management projects and contribute to the delivery of larger projects.
  • Manage the flood risk management budget, ensuring that annual government financial returns are submitted.
  • Provide flood management expertise on land use planning and development control matters.
  • Prepare and present results of technical analysis (e.g. fluvial models, flood alleviation proposals) in a clear and concise way that can be understood by non- experts.

What is Required

  • Relevant experience of working in the flood risk area / related professional field, with evidence of specialist knowledge and work responsibilities appropriate to the role. Local authority experience is desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience of representing the work area externally. Work with planning authorities and strategic flood partners e.g. Water Companies, EA, HA, Fire and Rescue.
  • Authoritative knowledge of relevant systems, regulations, legislation, best practice, policies and procedures, including health and safety. Flood and Water Management Act (2010), Water Framework Directive and Flood Risk Regulations (2009), Coast Protection Act 1949.
  • Experience of contributing to the development of procedures and practices. Flood asset registers, flood investigation protocol.

Essential Criteria

  • Educated to NVQ 4 / degree standard or equivalent
  • Qualification in relevant subject - Geography, Flood Risk Management, Civil Engineering
  • Professionaly qualified with a relevant professional body advisable but not essential

About you -

  • Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Able and willing to work outside normal office hours as required e.g. to attend evening/'out-of-hours' meetings.
  • Good customer service skills, with experience of resolving escalated / complex customer queries.
  • Awareness of current Health & Safety Management Systems, including knowledge and awareness of hazards in their area of responsibility and how to assess and manage associated risks.
  • Good planning and organisational skills, with proven ability to prioritize and co-ordinate workloads, monitor and evaluate work, to ensure standards, outcomes and deadlines are achieved.
  • Proven research and analysis skills demonstrating evidence of the ability to identify and diagnose problems/issues and develop solutions/recommendations.
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • Good ICT skills - including use of standard Microsoft applications and specialist systems. Windows Office, ArcView.
  • Use of specialised testing, analysis or evaluation equipment/ techniques as required relevant to flood and drainage.
  • Financial experience or training sufficient to manage budgets where appropriate
  • Understanding of coastal development strategies.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise and take decisive action.
  • Able to apply procurement techniques within a public sector organisation
  • Ability to take a lead role within a group of partner organisations
