Our state of the art campus offers local access to world class facilities. We are an ambitious College, ambitious for our learners, our staff and the community we serve. We measure our performance by the success of our learners.

Our fresh vibrant culture provides 12,000 learners each year with a wide provision ranging from Foundation to University Learning, contributing an overall £30 million College expenditure to the local economy.

We are currently recruiting for a Life Skills Support Worker to join our HCL department at South Devon College Newton Abbot campus. You will be required to work directly with young people who have been out of education or training for a variety of very different reasons or learners who may need support in engaging in alternative curriculum pathways. You will support learners with college work, encouraging them to take a positive part in activities both in and out of the classroom. You will work under the guidance of the person leading the learning, undertaking scheduled curriculum and/or care support duties that enable learners to access learning by improving their study skills, developing strategies to overcome their difficulties and fostering independence and self-determination.

The successful candidate will need to have English & Maths qualifications (GCSE Grade C or equivalent) or be willing to undertake a programme of study to update. You will also need to be willing to undertake the Level 2 Certificate in Learning Support (i.e. City & Guilds 9297), if not already held. We are looking for someone who has previous experience of working with disengaged young people (14-19) or learning support experience and/or evidence of transferable skills appropriate to the post.
