Policy & Communications Officer
About the role The Money Charity is the national financial capability charity which helps people across the UK stay on top of their money to help them live happier and more positive lives as a result. We are looking for a full time, permanent member of staff who will be responsible for our policy, research and communications work. Benefits include 10% non-contributory pension, 25 days holiday, bank holidays, plus 3 further discretionary days between Christmas and New Year when the office closes Role Description Policy & Research To lead on the development of The Money Charity's policy, research and public affairs activity and to develop and maintain our position on key policy issues. To monitor changes (and prospective changes) in policy and legislation that may affect the work of The Money Charity and to stay informed of research and policy in the areas of financial capability, personal finance and education; Taking initiative to help the charity expand and develop this area of work; To monitor external sources of information including media, Parliament and Government, think tanks and other for issues and developments of relevance; and provide summaries and analyses of them; To undertake research (including both ad hoc tasks and longer-term projects) to support the work of The Money Charity. Providing concise briefings and responses to questions; To be responsible for the production of one of our key publications - the monthly Money Statistics; To lead on the drafting of our responses to consultations and calls for evidence etc. To establish and maintain excellent working relationships with key stakeholders; Assist senior staff in promoting The Money Charity through drafting correspondence, briefing material and other external communications. Representing The Money Charity at events and meetings; Supporting strategies for communicating with key stakeholders including MPs, young people and industry, the policy and opinion-forming community as well as Government Press & Communications Using a range of techniques to build The Money Charity's profile amongst the media, national and local government, the education sector and amongst the general public. Managing The Money Charity's online presence, management and regular updating of social media sites, blogs and newsletters Building and maintaining relationships with the media, writing press releases and getting us in the news. Creating, developing, commissioning and editing web and print content Applicant requirements Essential: Previous experience of (or a proven interest in) policy, research and/or communications Ability to write and edit well; Ability to explain complex financial issues in a clear engaging way; Excellent analytical and numerical skills; Excellent interpersonal, communications and relationship management skills; Ability to work with MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint; Excellent organisational skills - able to manage own workload effectively and work under pressure; Able to be self-motivated and take initiative to deliver tasks; Ability to work with a team; A positive attitude to money/financial capability; A willingness to learn and develop in the role and travel when necessary. Desirable: Experience in working with a charity in a similar way; A good understanding of issues relating to money, personal finance and/or debt; A degree qualification in a relevant subject.
