Chair of the Board -South Lakes Housing

Location: Kendal

This is a very attractive opportunity to take a leadership role in a high-performing, ambitious housing association. About to celebrate its 6th birthday, SLH provides 3,000 affordable rented homes in South Lakeland, and we're proud of our strong track record of engaging with customers and communities. Our GBP54m improvement programme was completed in March 2017, and we have robust plans to build more than 300 new homes over the next few years.

Our strategic objective is to be a well-respected housing provider and a valuable social business, operating for social good and contributing to economic and social well-being in the South Lakes area and beyond. We want to continue to be recognised as effective and well-run, with excellent people, processes and culture. We are committed to operating as a key partner within South Cumbria, nurturing our strong and productive relationships with local government, health, and regional businesses. Key priorities for the medium term include providing good and cost-effective management of our homes; increasing our portfolio; developing commercial and partnership opportunities; and improving the running of our business.

With a strong track record and an excellent reputation across our area, we are well-placed to deepen and strengthen our reach and impact in the coming years, and we are clear that now is the time to push on and challenge ourselves. We want to appoint a new Chair who can build upon our successes and achievements to date, leading the Board to set stretching, ambitious goals so that SLH reaches its full potential in the long term.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate that they bring outstanding ability in the key elements of the role: leadership, strategic planning and business acumen, and excellent communication skills. A track record of high performance in a non-executive or governance role is also essential. Your personal circumstances should convince us that you have the time, energy, motivation and ethos to fulfil the role.

This position is voluntary, but expenses are paid. SLH regularly reviews the approach to Non-Executive remuneration. For an informal discussion and to find out more about this exciting opportunity, please contact our retained consultants by clicking apply.

Closing date for applications is 5pm on Tuesday 3rd April 2018.
