We are looking for a Researcher who can draw on knowledge of economics, markets and business, in the UK or abroad, to join our Challenge Prize Centre, concentrating on researching new prize programmes and horizon scanning.
About Nesta
Nesta is a global innovation foundation. We back new ideas to tackle the big challenges of our time. We use our knowledge, networks, funding and skills - working in partnership with others, including governments, businesses and charities. We are a UK charity but work all over the world, supported by a financial endowment.
Our Challenge Prize Centre is at the forefront of identifying and defining problems where new ideas, technologies and approaches can be encouraged to radically improve outcomes and then developing and managing challenge prizes that optimise the likelihood of success. Challenge prizes are competitions which reward whoever can first, or most effectively, meet a defined challenge.
About the role
In this new role, you will get involved in a broad range of topics in all of our areas of focus - sustainable development and communities, new frontiers in technology, global health, energy and environment and better markets. In particular, you will:
- Work in depth on prize projects, carrying out desk research to better understand market and technical opportunities for prizes
- Prepare briefings on economics and market opportunities in a range of fields, including to support the development of other prize projects
- Carry out interviews with experts to gather evidence and feedback on draft prize designs
- Write reports summarising research findings
- Designing and facilitating workshops
- Help communicate our work to outside audiences, for instance through blog posts or speaking at conferences
To secure this exciting opportunity
You're someone with a strong sense of social purpose excited about the prospect of joining a team whose focus is finding solutions to some of the most difficult challenges that society faces. Educated to degree level or equivalent, you'll have excellent communication skills and experience in economics, markets or business (through work or study) and a hunger to explore and work on unfamiliar topics.
