Accounts Assistant (Legal Cashier)

Meraki Talent are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading UK wide law firm seeking an experienced accounts assistant to join them on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work for an amazing law firm with a massive presence in the UK, with 81 partners and over 500 staff. Specialising in advice in retail estate, energy and natural resources and financial and banking sectors.

Responsibilities of the Accounts Assistant:

  • Allocating bank receipts, reviewing and setting up on CHAPS, BACS, Faster payment and international payment record
  • Processing office/client payment and receipt transactions
  • Processing Inter-account bank transactions
  • Opening, closing and carrying out maintenance on client's bank accounts via the firms banking software
  • Review, authorize and process internal cheque requests
  • Ability to perform daily Bank Reconciliations
  • To exercise a thorough knowledge and understanding of HMRC VAT and the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations 2007 requirements
  • Regular liaison with Directors, Partners and other staff member in relation to client transactions
  • To accurately file documentation stored within the Cashroom as requested
  • To assist with all other daily Cashroom activities as and when necessary, including attendance at meetings, the provision of training to other team members/ fee earners, contributing to group discussions on Cashroom procedures and ensuring Cashroom documentation is kept up-to-date
  • Ensuring client funds are lodged and uplifted from bank accounts

Experience of the Accounts Assistant:

  • Previous experience as a Legal Cashier or Finance Assistant in a high volume transactional team is essential.
  • Accustomed to relationship building and liaison with senior staff members is essential
  • Working knowledge of the Law Society of Scotland Accounts Rules is desirable
  • Detailed operational knowledge of the Law Society of Scotland Accounts Rules.
  • Proficient with Word and Excel
