Selwyn College is recruiting for a Relief Porter to cover absences of our full-time Porters and provide additional support on busy days.

You will join our friendly and customer-focused team, who provide an exceptional front of house service to our students, Fellows, staff, visitors and conference guests.

In this multi-faceted role, you will also be responsible for the security of College buildings and the safety of College members, visitors and guests.

We expect our Porters to go the extra mile when welcoming our visitors and guests, dealing efficiently with their enquiries, while being ready to respond calmly and appropriately with incidents, accidents, fire alarms and emergencies. You will be an ambassador for the College at all times, not only in the Porters’ Lodge, but also as you walk around conducting regular security patrols of the College site (including student accommodation and car parks), completing fire safety checks, locking/unlocking College buildings and delivering/collecting mail on daily post runs to College departments.

To be successful in this role you will be a motivated team player, who is also able to work with minimum supervision. You will be able to follow established procedures, but also to think outside the box.  We are also looking for applicants with tact, diplomacy, discretion, a calm approach, a helpful manner, an eye for detail, and excellent communication skills.  This role is ideal for individuals who wish to establish a flexible contract with the College.
