Overall purpose of role

Barclays works with 140+ legal suppliers, and the Legal function is accountable for maximising value from these firms, and ensuring appropriate cost controls are in place. The RA is essentially a rebate mechanism allowing Barclays to receive credits from our top firms based on levels of spend, credits must be appropriately managed and have appropriate request, approval, tracking and reporting processes in place, the Relationship Account Manager will be fully responsible for this and will become the subject matter expert for the RA.

Key Accountabilities

Management of Relationship Account

  • Rebate - Monitoring/allocating and tracking cash rebates - Develop model for allocation of funds across Barclays businesses
  • Secondees - Manage the request, forecast and allocation process - issues management/resolution eg non-provision of secondees
  • Growth & Innovation - Develop approvals process - monitor and track requests and subsequent allocations
  • Define process for prematurely closing


  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills through analysis of usage of the RA across all spend classifications - Rebates, Secondees and Growth & Innovation
  • Identify and challenge inappropriate use of the RA
  • Forecast RA saves for RAF and MTP - Track against forecast
  • Work with Pricing and COO teams to improve forecasting based on new MI available
  • Be able to model for changes to the Panel and associated impact it will have on the RA
  • Apply learnings to further develop Legal cost control practices, identifying opportunities for spend efficiencies through sharing best practice of RA usage


  • Internal education and trusted adviser to Lawyers on use of RA
  • Guidance and support to Law Firms embedding and delivering the RA
  • Define and share best practice eg use of Growth and Innovation; secondee management
  • Production of training/education materials

Strategic development

  • Plan for further iterations of the RA in preparation for next panel
  • Drive systemisation of key processes


  • Manage on-boarding of all new firms joining the RA
  • Handle negotiation of individual terms eg not all firms reaching GBP1m target may be able to provide a secondee for free
  • Set process and controls for joining - consistency of approach for all


  • Regular RA reporting to CoS and LExCo across all RA spend classifications, particularly rebates
  • Ad hoc reporting for Relationship Meetings
  • Streamline consolidation of Law Firm reports

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior colleagues (MDs/Ds)
  • Building strong relationships with RA law firms, both senior partners and law firm relationship and billing teams
  • Working with Business Managers and Barclays lawyers to manage all requests for use of the RA, particular focus on management of secondee demands
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of team objectives and strategy
  • Plan and manage projects and matters through to completion
  • Support and develop other members of the team Decision-making and Problem Solving

Skills & Experience Required

    • Experienced at engaging with and influencing stakeholders at all levels
    • Experienced in financial and commercial analysis, recommendations, negotiation, management and control
    • Experienced in technical data analysis, in particular attention to detail and control
    • Skilled at commercial negotiations
    • Experienced at presenting complex data clearly both verbally and through documentation and reports


Skills/Basic Qualifications:

Experience of pricing/financial modelling


Excellent communication skills

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

Experience of pricing in a legal environment including familiarity with pricing strategies
