General Manager
Hours: 37 hours per week, including some flexible working hours at weekends and evenings
Wirksworth Heritage Centre is in the second stage of a £1.6m HLF-supported project and is seeking a full time General Manager to lead an operational team and manage the new centre, due to open in late summer 2018.
Main purpose:
- The overall management and maintenance of the heritage centre - its operations and activities, the HLF-funded project and the heritage centre building.
- Overall responsibility for the management and leadership of the operational teams and for the body of volunteers supporting them.
- The day-to-day management of the heritage centre museum and its commercial operations.
- Effective management of retail and catering operations, education activity, events and property/space rental to achieve commercial income targets.
- To help deliver the vision of the organisation in terms of its heritage, educational and commercial aims.
- To monitor and report on activity and spend relevant to the Heritage Lottery Fund project.
Person Specification
Essential
- Management experience in a similar multi-service environment of comparable scale and complexity, preferably in the heritage, tourism or cultural sector.
- Well versed in day-to-day management of people, property and associated commercial activities including events, retail, catering and space hires.
- Track record of successfully managing teams.
Desirable
- Experience of training and supervising volunteers.
- Experience of working in the heritage sector or event/venue management
The successful candidate will have a commercial focus and experience of working in a similar multi-service environment, preferably in the heritage, tourism or cultural sector. .
