As in-house recruiters for DENSO Marston based in Shipley, West Yorkshire we are looking for a Direct Buyer to join the Purchasing team. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager this role will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the company's overall purchasing strategy whilst achieving specific KPI's and cost down targets.

Key Responsibilities

- Build supplier relationships; conduct negotiations regarding pricing, contracts and quotations in accordance with company policies; develop strategies to ensure the company's purchasing goals are met. Interface with suppliers, lead where necessary supplier meetings to monitor service, cost, delivery and quality.
- Negotiating improved terms of business with key current suppliers, whilst researching, developing and evaluating new suppliers on a truly global scale.
- Work closely with the site supply chain, manufacturing and engineering teams to proactively identify and develop external capability to support strategic out-sourcing opportunities, development of new products and associated new sources of supply. Project management of purchasing activities relating to new product development and engineering changes.
- Execution of a global supply chain strategy for assigned commodities including supplier development, constantly searching for the most cost effective supply chain route to complement the business need.
- Monitor and report upon supplier performance, liaise with quality assurance on supplier status, produce monthly reporting on all of the above as required by Departmental Manager. Manage performance improvement activities with the suppliers.

Skills/Experience Required

- Between 3-5+ years purchasing experience, preferably gained in a manufacturing environment with a proven record of purchasing production materials or commodities. However other disciplines with a wish to move into manufacturing will definitely be considered.
- Experience in project management and managing suppliers is desirable.
- Experienced track record of plant and group deliverables.
- A commercially focused professional who can demonstrate knowledge of best practice purchasing techniques and have the ability to plan and prioritize their workload to meet deadlines, work on own initiative and identify, analyse and solve problems.
- Able to provide an excellent operational service within the local plant infrastructure and within the broader group business.
- Strong negotiation, contract skills and preferably a knowledge of "should cost" techniques. A strong relationship builder with ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organisation.
- Comfortable to deal with all levels within the supply base.
- Drive to achieve best value and ongoing cost reduction.
- Able to achieve senior management expectations whilst delivering at operational level.
- Well developed communication, negotiation and influencing skills and a tenacious attitude to delivering change.
- Must have a can do attitude with high levels of motivation to continually challenge the status quo.
- Comfortable working within a team environment, delivering change.
- A self starter and confident decision maker who is able to think on their feet.
- Degree/HND qualified preferably with a CIPS qualification, or be studying towards CIPS

Working Hours

- 8:30 - 5:00 Mon - Thurs 8:30 - 1:30 Fri. Flexi-time of 30 minutes at either side of the core hours are available Mon - Thurs
