LOCATION: Lancaster, Lancashire
JOB TITLE: Head Grounds Person / Head Gardener
SALARY & BENEFITS: Competitive salary dependent on individual skills & experience plus benefits
WORKING HOURS: Full Time - Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm (38.33 hours per week)

THE COMPANY / ROLE: Our client based in Lancaster are set in 14 acres of beautiful Lancashire countryside and they now currently seek an experienced Head Grounds Person / Head Gardener to join their existing Landscape / Gardening team in leading and motivating a team of gardeners / ground workers to oversee the day to day tasks and running of the Gardens of Remembrance as well as other associated tasks. This role will require you to operate light horticultural machinery.

As a Head Grounds Person / Head Gardener you will report to the Crematorium Manager and will be required to maintain a high quality environment which will present to clients and visitors a sense of tranquillity and reflect the excellent standards of care and sensitivity. You will also oversee the cremation process where specified and will also work closely and creatively with the memorial team.

THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate for the Head Grounds Person / Head Gardener's position must have previous horticultural or gardening experience in a similar role and it also essential you have experience supervising and leading a small team of staff. You should have resonable numeracy and literacy skills and have excellent communication skills as well as being a natural problem solver who can take a flexible approach to their work and tasks. Although not essential as for the right candidate training can be provided, candidates with a horticultural qualification or pesticide spray certificates would be desirable. Candidates must live within commutable distance to Lancaster, Lancashire.

Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the Head Grounds Person / Head Gardener's role in Lancaster, Lancashire :-
  • Previous horticultural or gardening experience in a similar role is essential
  • Experience leading/supervising a team of staff essential
  • Must have excellent spoken communication skills and a warm friendly personality
  • Should be adaptable and be able to take a flexible approach to tasks
  • Related Horticultural qualification or pesticide spray certificates would is desirable
  • Must live in or be able to commute to Lancaster
