Are you looking to kick start your legal career? Then this could well be the role for you. So what's the job? We currently have an opportunity for a Paralegal to join our Restructuring and Insolvency team in our Newcastle office based on the Quayside. You'll see from our website that we have a lot of specialist areas. Our Restructuring and Insolvency team are part of our wider Corporate and Commercial team and are considered leaders in their field, offering expert advice to some of the top companies in the UK. The team act for a wide range of clients, including directors, borrowers, underperforming businesses, insolvency practitioners, banks and other financial institutions providing advice on a variety of issues from the first signs of distress to restructurings and sales of businesses in formal insolvency. The team also acts for the Insolvency Service in relation to directors disqualification proceedings and the winding up of companies in the public interest and it is in relation to this contentious work in particular that we are looking to recruit. We know that technical excellence is no longer enough, so we've worked hard to ensure that we combine technical excellence with a genuine understanding of our clients and their businesses which allows us to add real commercial value. So what will I be doing? As a Paralegal in this team, you'll be expected to run your own caseload of matters as well as having the opportunity to get involved in some of the more complex cases that the team are working on. Business development is also an important aspect for all of our lawyers, and you'll be expected to contribute to the growth of the team by assisting with the organisation of and attending client events, writing articles for our website or other publications and other marketing activities. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a talented and enthusiastic team who will be as invested in your career development as you are. You'll be supported by a collegiate approach, a firm wide commitment to paralegal development, and mentoring and supervision by leaders in their field. In return, you'll bring a broad and varied skillset that includes a strong team work ethic, first-class communication skills and ability to work efficiently, often to tight deadlines. What skills/academics are you looking for? First and foremost you'll need to have some legal education already and that could be a law degree, GDL or CILEx. Some previous experience of working within a similar environment would be a distinct advantage but is in no way an absolute requirement. You'll need to solve problems and make decisions, provide a fast and efficient turnaround of work and maintain an enthusiastic and flexible approach as well as the willingness to use your initiative in order to take responsibility for tasks. This role needs a high standard of organisational skill, the ability to communicate confidently at all levels on the telephone, face to face and through routine correspondence and ultimately deliver a first-class service to our clients. A sound knowledge of IT packages together with a willingness to expand this with training when required. Why work for Womble Bond Dickinson? We're a full-service transatlantic law firm, created on 1 November 2017 through the combination of UK firm Bond Dickinson and US firm Womble Carlyle.
