The firm This is an exciting time to join Howard Kennedy. The firm has completed two recent mergers and has moved to smart new offices at London Bridge. The firm has grown quickly, both in terms of revenue and profitability, and is an ambitious firm looking to exploit the potential that these mergers have brought. The role Our real estate litigators advise funders, landlords, tenants, developers, investors, high net worth individuals, hoteliers and retailers on a wide range of commercial and residential issues and are one of the largest real estate litigation teams in central London. This is a role where you will be working with a team of 7 (2 Partners, 1 Legal Executive, 1 Consultant and 2 Solicitors and a trainee). The team has particular expertise in commercial developments, offices, retail and leisure sectors. The team advises on litigation risks early on in transactions with a view to avoiding litigation. The team is noted for finding non-litigious ways of resolving potentially litigious issues. The team advises on all types of commercial and residential property issues and as a minimim, you will need to have experience in the following areas: Rent and service charge claims Business lease renewals (opposed and unopposed) Break clauses Forfeiture and relief from forfeiture Dilapidations Breach of covenant claims Trespass actions and removal of squatters Applications for consent arising under the lease Boundary disputes Nuisance claims Rent review claims (interpretation and determination) Restrictive covenants Whilst not essential, experience in residential property disputes would be useful, particularly service charge disputes and leasehold enfranchisement claims. Tasks and responsibilities A wide range of real estate litigation outlined in the job summary above Identifying and converting new business opportunities to progressively develop a client portfolio. Proactively seeking opportunities from existing clients to win work or refer work to other teams. Managing the performance of junior colleagues through ensuring they are given stretching work, timely and constructive feedback and other opportunities consistent with their personal development needs. Managing a portfolio of clients or operating as client relationship manager for medium-sized clients, referrers and/or projects. Ensuring timely delivery of commercially-focused work, completed to high quality and consistent standards. Proactively spotting opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement to resolve client issues. Acting as a trusted advisor through demonstrating and applying a thorough understanding of the client, sector and associated risks. Consistently meeting time recording targets and ensuring that billing is done in a timely and effective manner.
