Trans Advocacy Officer

As part of our four year Reaching Communities grant, funded by the Big Lottery, we are developing a new Advocacy service to meet the growing need and demand from our trans service users. If you are a highly organised, motivated and skilled individual, you might be just what we are looking for to join our team. This role will be focussed on supporting the delivery of a 12 month Advocacy Pilot aimed at promoting self-advocacy, access to services and improving the health and wellbeing of members of the trans community. The role will include designing pathways to and from the service and managing a caseload of individuals requiring advocacy. As well as recruiting and training a bank of volunteer advocates to provide one to one support through the project. Job Title: Trans Advocacy Officer Salary: GBP18,025 Pro Rata (% Pension) Hours: 0.5FTE / 18.5 hours Special Terms: Post runs until 31st March 2019 Accountable to: Trans Programme Co-ordinator Accountable for: Volunteers To download a recruitment pack, and receive a copy of the full job description please visit our website: Your responsibilities will include: Work alongside the Trans Programme Coordinator and the Wellbeing Coordinator to develop a Trans Advocacy Service over a 12 month pilot. Hold an active caseload promoting self-advocacy, advocating on behalf of clients where necessary. Ensure that the service users are involved in all decision making by providing them with the information, knowledge and skills to make decisions for themselves. Collect data and contribute to reports to demonstrate the impact of the service. To recruit, train and supervise a team of motivated volunteer advocates who will support with service delivery by having their own caseload. All staff are expected to maintain a flexible approach to their roles and respond to LGBT Foundation's changing needs.
