The Firm We stand out for being consistently excellent in advice. We not only provide technical excellence and experience but crucially, we also demonstrate real insight into our clients and what really matters to them. Our knowledge of our chosen sectors and markets, and our investment in our client relationships set us apart. We are a natural choice for FTSE100 and other "bold and beautiful" clients. The Group Addleshaw Goddard's Financial Regulation Team is one of largest in the UK with a mix of 25 lawyers an compliance professionals split over Leeds and London. The Team has a very strong reputation for regulated lending and banking and is ranked in Band 1 of Chambers and Partners for Consumer Finance. In addition to its consumer finance practice, the Team has a strong and growing wider financial regulation practice. The Team is a driving force behind the firm's Payments practice, which is also considered to be one of the leading Payments practices in the UK. The Team is also establishing itself with a strong financial markets regulatory practice, assisting clients to implement MIFID II, EMIR, Senior Persons Regime, as well as supporting transactional, banking and funds structuring work. The team is unstuffy and down to earth, but also highly ambitious and hardworking. Its approach to service delivery is highly commercial and innovative with an uncompromising approach to quality. Our Requirements We are looking for a specialist financial regulation lawyer to join our team, working closely with our Partners to grow the work and profile of this part of our practice. The person will ideally have a good all round knowledge of the financial regulation of investments and financial instruments, brokers, funds, platforms and exchanges. The person will need to be strong technically as the role will be assisting the partners to deliver high quality work to clients, as well as helping to win new work alongside the partners. Initially, this role is not expected to be as market facing as the payments role, but we would hope the person is keen to grow their own practice and reputation in the market on the back of the growth of the practice and the work they will be doing. Knowledge, skills and experience required As a Managing Associate you will advise a range of clients on complex and cutting edge issues and will play an important role in encouraging, developing and supervising more junior members of the team. As with all our lawyers, but particularly for more senior lawyers, client development and relationship building is a frequent aspect of the role. As part of this you may have the opportunity to undertake client secondments to assist our clients and to build your skills and expertise further. We offer a supportive environment which is ideal for a committed lawyer who is looking to advance their career and create a name for themselves. Whatever your level, you'll be expected to play a full role in the Team, including involvement in business development and regular client contact. The team is based in London and Leeds (with regular contact across the offices). Some travel may be required. You will have developed a strong knowledge of financial regulation, including FSMA and the FCA Handbook. You will have a good understanding of regulatory developments in Europe in the field of financial regulation and be following MIFID II. You may have worked on implementing EMIR, and have knowledge and experience in the following areas: CRD IV, Bank recovery and resolution, Benchmark regulation, Banking structural reforms, and Market abuse / AML matters. There are excellent prospects for progression within this role and within the firm as a whole. Background ??? You will be at least 5 years PQE, but significantly more experience than this would also be of interest. ??? Most importantly, you should have a real and genuine interest in this area and be keen to grow that knowledge. ??? You should be adept at managing or mentoring others and in building strong client relationships. ??? Our ideal candidate should have a keen intellect and a commercial mindset. You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to provide pragmatic, robust and tailored advice in a way that supports internal and external clients alike. ??? The ability to actively support complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed. ??? The ability to contribute to the general upkeep of the group (whether that be to training, precedents, or know-how generally). ??? The enthusiasm to build relationships with clients. ??? Displays a knowledge of key areas of the law by providing clear, precise, practical advice.
