Trainee Restoration Technician

Rainbow International carry out work for the Uk’s top insurance companies carrying out fire and flood clean up’s and restoration projects. We also carry out industrial cleaning projects privately for domestic and commercial customers.

Working as a trainee technician you will work as part of a team and with a senior technician. The role is challenging but very varied and with a chance to progress towards full technician status. 

Main job duties

Flood restoration projects  : Help the senior technicians carrying out assessments on site for the insurance company and producing a report which will be either in writing or via an I pad app. Following this you will be doing tasks such  moving furniture & contents, extraction of water, uplifting wet carpets and flooring, carrying out buildings strip out work,  help plan and installation of the correct drying regime.

Carpet, upholstery and curtain cleaning to both domestic and commercial customers.

Some basic carpet re fitting work

Hard floor cleaning and floor buffing  as well as specialist floor grinding.

PAT testing of electrical equipment

Pressure washing and some graffiti removal

Fire clean up and restoration jobs – all aspects of structural and contents cleaning and including high level cleaning

Work as part of a team on builders cleans

Carrying out removal and storage jobs.

Some sharps removal and bio hazards work

Other relevant information

You will carry out the work mainly during daytime weekday hours but there will be some weekend and evening working. Once fully qualified you will be on an on call rota to deal with emergency work out of hours. Occasionally there could be some night work.There are lots of opportunities to earn overtime during busy periods. Do not apply for this job if you want a 9-5pm job where every day is the same.

Normal hours will be 40 per week. We operate some work as overtime and other work as part of a flexi time system. 

In addition to bank holidays we offer 20 days holiday per year, which after 3 years service increase by 1 day per year up to a maximum of 28.

You will need a full driving licence which is mostly clean and no past history of disqualifications.

As we work for national insurance companies we will have to carry out a CRB and  credit reference check on your behalf.

Rates of pay start at the minimum/living wage ( £ 7.50 - £ 7.83 per hour ) and increase with service and experience and training.

Full training will be given and this is a challenging role whereby you need to be :

Use your initiative follow procedures and have awareness of health and safety

Be comfortable working in a small team and taking instructions from a senior technician.

A conscientious and very hard worker

The job can be physically demanding on certain days so you need to be fit. Some heavy lifting also involved.

Have excellent communication and customer care skills

To advance to full technician status some computer skills but also reading and writing to be able to write reports and fill in paperwork.

Develop excellent working relationships with customers, key clients, and fellow workers.
