Senior Specialist – Collections Strategy & Control

NewDay Cards Ltd is seeking a Senior Specialist – Collections Strategy & Control who will be responsible for the design, optimisation, monitoring and performance measurement of all risk based collections strategies across the NewDay portfolios. A large part of the role will be developing champion challenger strategies to continually improve the performance of the delinquent portfolios.

The role holder will work closely with the Decision Science, Collections Analytics & Collections Operations teams, to develop collections strategies backed by analysis that deliver tangible customer and business benefit and to execute controls that ensure all processes are aligned to policy and adhered to.

The role covers the Collections lifecycle, from pre-delinquency through to post charge off recoveries, across multiple brands and products.

Key responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • having ultimate ownership and accountability for Collections Decision Tree Strategies ensuring optimal use of risk based segmentation on the core portfolio and logical and streamlined structuring of treatments for the non-core portfolio;
  • developing and executing against a suit of tests designed to demonstrate conformance to the designed strategies by the operational process – people and systems;
  • being responsible for ensuring that systems and infrastructure are not only fit for purpose, but also delivering the desired outcome for NewDay;
  • working closely with operations and the change team to drive the agenda on systems and infrastructure;
  • working in partnership with the Operations team to ensure that the customer journey and impact of contact strategy aligns to the objectives of better customer outcomes;
  • supporting the team in developing and deploying a series of tests designed to improve the effectiveness of the collections operations teams;
  • utilising data driven insight to inform the development of the collectors toolkit & treatments; and
  • providing thought leadership to the Risk & Operations Management function and challenging strategic initiatives to meet our Impairment and Collections cost targets.

Criteria for selection

The candidate must possess the following attributes:

  • have experience in developing optimal Collections Strategies using Decision Engine Infrastructure;
  • have experience developing and implementing policies and controls to govern collections strategies;
  • be degree educated in a highly numerate field;
  • have the ability to demonstrate proficient use of SAS and SQL in developing analysis and strategies;
  • have relevant experience within a regulated financial services organisation;
  • have strong, demonstrable experience of working in Collections strategy;
  • have knowledge of consumer credit sector and products, with a core background in risk and/or analytics;
  • have a risk aware and control focussed outlook;
  • be a solution orientated individual;
  • have strong partnership and relationship skills;
  • be able to coordinate resources with varying skill sets and capabilities to deliver an end to end solution;
  • have the ability to drive multiple initiatives forward simultaneously;
  • have the ability to work unsupervised with high level of self-motivation;
  • be able to work well under pressure;
  • have the ability to use controls and testing to drive change; and
  • have the creativity, energy and personal drive to succeed.

The candidate will also preferably possess the following experience:

  • exposure to multiple decision systems eg SDS, Tallyman, Debt manager, PowerCurve, TRIAD would be beneficial;
  • exposure to quantitative modelling;
  • experience using Visual Basics;
  • a working knowledge of mainframe account management platform (eg First Vision, Certegy, TSYS);
  • experience of CRA account management data; and
  • experience mentoring and developing technical and analytical capability of fellow colleagues.

Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 per annum
