The Open University has been transforming lives since 1969 by opening up higher education to all sections of the community.

As Communications Manager (Welsh Language) of the Open University in Wales you will be responsible for ensuring that the University communicates well, in both Welsh and English, with a wide range of audiences.  You’ll help us expand our communications activity in the Welsh language, both directly producing lively and engaging materials and overseeing our compliance with Welsh Language Standards throughout the University.  You will develop best practice relating to use of the Welsh Language by the Open University and will make sure all relevant staff feel confident and well supported in meeting the statutory requirements.  

You’ll have relevant experience of developing and delivering effective bilingual communications in a professional environment, be skilled at quickly building productive working relationships with key stakeholders and will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of successfully organising and delivering projects that involve multiple teams and objectives.

You will need to possess a Higher Education qualification or have equivalent professional experience.  A further professional qualification in public relations, communications, translation and/or project management is desirable. A high level of spoken and written language skills in Welsh and in English and the ability to communicate fluently, effectively and professionally in both languages is essential along with a clear understanding of the legal and cultural status of the Welsh Language in Wales and the implications of the Welsh Language Standards for education.
