Technical Support Engineer - Refrigeration Engineer

Our client is a leading player in the HVAC & Refrigeration industry, and they are looking for a Technical Support / Applications Engineer to join their team out of their offices in Guildford, Surrey.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a well-known and market-leading company, dealing with high profile brands such as Hitachi, Secop, LG, Embraco.

The ideal candidate will have experience particularly within the refrigeration industry. You will potentially have worked in the field as a Refrigeration Engineer, and will have a wealth of knowledge with regards to refrigeration, coolers, condensing units, cold rooms, and everything refrigeration.

The purpose of this role is to help the company better serve their customers, by delivering expert knowledge on repair and the application of their wide refrigeration parts and components portfolio. You will be providing technical advice both to customers and also internal colleagues as well.

Job purpose:

To technically support and promote products and services, assisting the internal and external sales teams, other departments and customers through a thorough working knowledge of the refrigeration product line, components and the associated items.
To guide and provide product selection and application solutions, product training and application guidance and product fault diagnosis for the refrigeration product line, components and associated items.
To assist the sales, purchasing and product development teams with developing and promoting the business whilst helping maintain turnover and profit margin.
To aid and promote the company's proactive approach to new product selection, product improvement and product replacement.
To visit customers and suppliers to assist with product application, product selection, product fault diagnosis and fault rectification.
To stay up to date with regulations and directives that impact on the operation of the business and that dictate product application.


Acquire and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the range of products supplied; a thorough understanding of their applications in order to provide full support for the Sales Staff and Customers. Keep this knowledge up-to-date through meetings, product training, exhibitions and visits to suppliers.
Assist customers and end-users with technical queries, installation and application issues, and to co-ordinate or assist with the company's response to any related problems.
Train personnel and customers and generally provide advice on the technical aspects of applications, engineering, installation, safety, suitability of the company's products and national and international regulations.
Assist with developing relationships with suppliers that further the goodwill attaching to the company name and assist with promotion of the company's interests generally to the outside world.
Maintain up to date product data.
To provide technical reference/support for warranty returns, assisting the returns department.
Assist with the technical aspect of customer complaints in a swift and timely manner.
Support product development with existing product changes and new product selection/introduction, being an active member of the New Product Introduction team.

Day to day activities:
Support on all refrigeration products.
Obtain data on products and pass on to colleagues and customers.
Advise alternatives and replacements.
Heat load calculations and equipment selection for refrigeration cold rooms, cellars, special applications and air conditioning.
Equipment selection for refrigeration condensing units, coolers, expansion devices, and ancillary line components and for air conditioning systems and ancillary items.
Spares selection for refrigeration equipment -condensing units, coolers and line components.
Compressor, condensing unit, cooler and air conditioning equipment comparisons.
Data searching.
Programming controllers for refrigeration, heating, humidifying and process control.
Handle customer complaints, particularly from a technical support point of view

Candidate Profile:
Have a thorough knowledge of the application, operation and fault finding of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and components (not limited to HVACR products)
Understand the principles of Operation for the products in the product portfolios of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Control, Heating and Electrical
Will need to have had experience in a HVACR Engineer role
Will need to be strong, coherent, concise and patient communicator (Verbal and Written)
Be able to quickly and concisely assimilate details of products and applications
Have a nature and personality that encourages people to seek assistance
Good understanding of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (including macros, pivot tables and lookup functions) and have general good working knowledge of other Microsoft Office products
Be willing and able to travel in the UK and abroad as required for customer and supplier visits

  • 37.5 Working Hours/23 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holiday Days
  • Basic salary GBP35,000 (dependent on experience)
  • Pension Autoenrolment (1% E'ee/1% E'er) or Enhanced Pension Offer (3% E'ee/3% E'er) after qualifying period
