Full &Part Time, Permanent
Based at: 100 Temple Street BS1 6AG
The role of these Housing Officer posts in the Private Housing and Accessible Homes Service is to give frontline advice to customers on the licensing of private rented accommodation and a range of other private housing functions and to deal with any follow-up work.
Housing Officers handle incoming calls, post and emails from all private housing service users – private tenants, private landlords and homeowners. The majority of
Housing Officers’ work is dealing with the licensing of private rented accommodation - giving advice on what properties are eligible and owners’ responsibilities to apply for a licence as well as processing licence applications. They also give basic advice to private tenants on the repair or condition of their accommodation or on their tenancy conditions. Good communication skills are particularly important here where there is often the need to explain complex legislation to customers and where clarity, tact and assertiveness in equal measure are required to deal with sometimes distressed or angry individuals.
Good ICT skills and an enthusiasm for helping customers to resolve problems are also essential. Some knowledge of private housing work or of the Civica APP database system would be further advantages.
