In our services volunteers provide mentoring to newly released prisoners or those being supported by probation in the community, or welcome and support families who are visiting their loved ones in prison- they may help serve cups of tea, or provide play activities for children to enable their families to talk during a prison visit. There's a great variety in our volunteering roles, but they all have one thing in common: our volunteers make a real difference to the lives of people going through one of the most difficult times in their lives.

In this role you will recruit, train, coordinate and support the management of volunteers and student placements. You will also guide and support managers in volunteer management best practice, so that our volunteers feel supported and encouraged to engage actively in their volunteering.

This role is 30 hours over 4 days (weekend working may be required) and will require travel throughout your region to carry out the responsibilities of your role. You will need to have a driving licence and access to a car.

Core hours will be 9-5 but on occasions to be available to work flexibly to support volunteers who are conducting their mentoring meetings at the weekends, early morning or evenings if necessary.

About you:

With the ability to offer a warm welcome to volunteers and engage them meaningfully in our clients work, you will have some experience of volunteering, especially recruiting volunteers and matching them to appropriate opportunities, along with knowledge of volunteering management best practice. You will also have a good understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality/data protection and safeguarding.

Reporting to the Volunteering Services Manager, you will be part of a team of volunteer coordinators working across the South East, who support each other and share best practice. You will also receive a thorough induction to the work of our client and its various services. If you have not delivered training, or worked in prisons before, don't worry, we will provide you support to develop skills in group facilitation and training delivery, and discuss your support needs as part of your induction.

Our client is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all backgrounds, including those with previous convictions (appointment to post is subject to a risk assessment).
