Salary: £34,330

About us

We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment. Acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do. We reduce the risks to people, properties and businesses from flooding and coastal erosion.  We work closely with a wide range of partners to reduce the risk of flooding, protecting and improving air, land and water quality.

The roles

We currently have two team leader roles available, leading the Asset Performance team and the Mechanical and Electrical team. These teams are responsible for the management of our flood risk infrastructure across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Norfolk (the River Great Ouse catchment) and their work helps to protect communities across East Anglia from the devastating effects of flooding to both people and property.

Asset Performance Team

You would be leading a skilled, multi-disciplinary team of 11, made up of engineers, project managers and asset inspectors. This team works both in the field and in the office, identifying the maintenance needs for our flood risk management structures such as flood banks, reservoirs and pumping stations. This involves identifying a programme of works for the coming year, a high level programme for the next 5 years and also looking at investment needs into the future (i.e. 20 years plus). The team also ensure that the annual maintenance programme is delivered, either through contractors or our in house workforce. Your role will be to provide inspirational and motivational leadership, ensure that the team’s core work is delivered and the team have the right skills, capabilities and development plans in place.

Mechanical and Electrical Team

You would be leading a team of 10, made up of primary field workers who are skilled mechanics and electricians. This team’s role is to maintain our mechanical and electrical structures and telemetry systems. You will be supported by a technical specialist within the team whose role is to advise on all technical aspects of the team’s work and provide technical leadership to the team. Your role will be to provide inspirational and motivational leadership to the team, ensure that the annual programme of maintenance works is delivered as well as reactive incident response to failures and breakdowns. Working with the technical specialist you will assess skills and capability needs, and ensure that the team have the right training and development plans in place.

About you

You will need to have strong leadership skills for either role and be an experienced line manager who is flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities. Ideally, you will have experience of leading a technical team to deliver projects and programmes and be adept at coaching and mentoring to get the best out of people. A strong understanding of Health and Safety legislation and risk management procedures would also be beneficial but not essential, as well as knowledge of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering and flood risk management.

Benefits

In return for your hard work, we offer a competitive package with a range of benefits, as well as the opportunity to make a real difference to the environment. We’re committed to your continued professional development – you’ll have the opportunity to further develop your skills, expertise and career in the fast-paced, ever-evolving environment.
