Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 pro rata (depending on experience)

Hours: 18 hours per week

Location: Threemilestone, near Truro, Cornwall

Contract: two-year fixed contract

Safeguarding is a vital part of the Church’s mission of healing, justice and hope.  As a diocese we aim to be a beacon of best practice in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.  The role of the Safeguarding Governance Manager is at the heart of this. In the Diocese of Truro one of our many priorities is to ensure that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

The findings from the recent SCIE (Social Care Institute for Excellence) Safeguarding Audit, our own internal audit processes and our understanding of where our strengths and weaknesses lie, have helped us to identify a number of areas which need developing, improving and resourcing. This is not only to keep up with ever-developing practice, but to enable us to support and provide a responsive service across the diocese.

The main purpose of the role of Safeguarding Governance Manager is to ensure that robust policies and procedures are developed and followed, that good working partnerships are in place across the diocese, and to support the case management, training key people and ensuring our systems are robust.  The role is a combination of direct delivery and overseeing the work of others including contractors and particularly volunteers; it is about a strategic view of the ‘big picture’.

The successful candidate will be qualified to degree level or equivalent, have experience of safeguarding in the voluntary or statutory sector and have knowledge of local authority safeguarding processes and structures.

It is not a requirement for the post-holder to be a member of the Church of England but there needs to be a degree of sympathy and a willingness to learn about the culture of church life.

Application is by the form provided and a covering letter of no more than 2 sides of A4. No CVs please.

You will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service for this role.

Some evening and weekend work will be required.
