The HE Service Delivery team is a dynamic, agile team supporting all parts of our UK Higher Education and International Qualifications business to identify and win opportunities to deliver services and products that support teaching and learning in a blended or online environment. In 2018, the team will be supporting revenue targets in excess of GBP20m. These products and services include, but are not limited to:

  • Course design, development & production services
  • Content services
  • Technology training and implementation services
  • Evaluation and analytics services
  • Market & customer research, testing and engagement services

Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Academic Services, this role is responsible for the design, development and delivery of academic development and induction services for educators (online faculty & tutors) and online students. Focused on delivery of our academic development services, you will promote the development of online learning and teaching skills.

Enabling educators to provide an excellent student experience and students to achieve their learning goals. You will be working within a wider Higher Education Service Delivery team to support our Course Design and Development process, and with Universities to develop bespoke and scalable solutions to their induction needs.

You will work closely with instructional designers to ensure that induction needs and outcomes are captured and appropriate solutions are developed. You will harness a range of learning technologies and online services to support positive learner outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Educator Development & Consultation

  • Scope and define academic development requirements according to desired learning outcomes and optimum user experience through on- going consultation and engagement during the course development cycle (working with higher education institutions).
  • Apply expertise in pedagogy and e-learning to advise on the creation of effective learning outcomes, online teaching strategies, learning activities and tasks, and assessment strategies
  • Create, document and & execute bespoke staff induction programmes matched to defined learning outcomes, agreed development needs and course goals.
  • Design, development and facilitate new service offering in the area of online teaching and learning mapped to UKPSF (D1/D2).
  • Embed and undertake evaluation mechanisms to support continuous improvement.
  • Make recommendations on appropriate scalable learning technologies to support effective online learning and teaching practice.

Student Induction and Transition support

  • Scope and define student induction requirements according to desired learning outcomes and optimum user experience through on- going consultation and engagement during the course development cycle (working with higher education institutions).
  • Create and document bespoke online student induction programmes matched to defined learning outcomes, agreed development needs and course goals.
  • Provide initial training and development for induction programme facilitator
  • Support the development and delivery of new service offering in the area of student transitions.

Internal training and knowledge sharing

  • Maintain your own knowledge and awareness of online learning and teaching approaches and share with wider higher education team.
  • Maintain records of engagements with clients and provide feedback to key Pearson stakeholders
  • Support development of new services

Community Building and Market feedback

  • Support the development of Pearson's new Professional Development programme for universities by contributing market feedback to the curriculum development and pilot testing with prospective customers.
  • Build a bank of reference studies and case studies from your customers
  • Support pilots and early adopter schemes as required in your territory
  • Conduct efficacy studies with your customers as required
  • Network and join relevant online teaching and learning communities in your territory.

Professional Development Training

  • Responsible for delivering professional development sessions to universities, tailoring the course to their bespoke needs and maintaining a focus on achieving desired learning outcomes and institutional key performance indicators
  • Tailor and adopt professional development resources appropriately for your customers.
  • Incorporate appropriate professional standards and frameworks into our CPD provision and monitor continually
  • Provide support and guidance to university leaders in their development of a CPD program for all staff.
  • Ensure our CPD delivery is fit for purpose and conforms to best value principles.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant local and national CPD initiatives and organisations.
  • Support our course design and development service by ensuring training needs of our customers are met to make the best use of available online teaching methods and the best uses of technology to enhance student learning

Qualifications

Key Requirements

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in an academic development role, with experience of delivering professional development training in an online setting
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education/Learning Technology/Instructional Design
  • Professional recognition (HEA Fellow/Senior Fellow, SEDA Fellow).
  • Experience of designing and developing online learning experiences in higher education.
  • Experience of online learning, learning management systems and the use digital learning technologies and products in course delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Presence and experience to operate at highest management levels in institutions.
  • Confident and able networker with an ability to form trusted relationships, influence and lead at all levels, often in virtual teams.
  • Demonstrate attitude and behaviour consistent with Pearson values.
  • Driven, highly motivated and independent worker.
  • Willingness to travel, full driving licences

Desirable:

  • Higher Degree (PhD) in Learning Technology
