Role Profile – Assistant Site Manager

Hours:              37.5 per week, Monday to Friday. 8.30am – 5.00pm (worked flexibly to meet the needs of the business)

Location:         Sewell Group Offices, Geneva Way, Leads Road, Hull, HU7 0DG

Salary:              £24,000 - £34,000 dependent upon experience, plus bonus opportunity

Role Overview

Supporting the Construction Team, the Assistant Site Manager will be responsible for supervising and co-ordinating construction works and activities of operatives and tradesmen on site including performance reporting on a regular basis.

The role will be based from our Sewell Head Offices, however will involve a high proportion of site based working. Construction sites will generally be within a 30 minute – 1 hour of our Head Office.

Role Responsibilities

The performance of specific operations

  • Ensure all best practices are being implemented
  • Ensure practical integration of all site activities
  • Report regularly to the line manager
  • Control and distribution of materials and plant on site
  • Ensure all work is executed to the highest of standards
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with agreed methodology and to programme

The implementation and development of the business infrastructure and systems

  • Ensure adherence and implementation of all health & safety procedures
  • Control and monitor waste management, noise pollution, dust and other environmental issues
  • Communication of all day to day issues to general staff
  • Deal with site administration, as required

The support, development of colleagues (+ oneself) within the team

  • Identify and communicate appropriately any people matters
  • Coach and motivate individuals
  • Encourage opportunities to share knowledge and expertise
  • Identify areas for own training and development

The enhancement & development of client & supplier relationships

  • Develop and nurture successful and rewarding relationships with colleagues, clients & supply chain
  • Working alongside site management in understanding Client and Client’s objectives
  • Maintain a professional Sewell relationship throughout and be a reliable point of contact
  • Encourage client feedback and communicate it to the line manager and take appropriate action where necessary
  • Ensure that relevant issues raised at close down meeting are actioned accordingly for future contracts

Suppliers

  • Create a relationship with suppliers so that health & safety procedures as followed by all sub-contractors on site
  • Encourage positive relationships with all suppliers
  • Invite and encourage use of suppliers technical knowledge, skills and expertise
  • Communicate on subcontractor performance to all relevant suppliers


Key skills and attributes required:

  • Hold a full driving licence, valid in the UK.
  • Previous experience supervising a construction site and subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of programming and web-based document storage software.
  • A positive and professional attitude.
  • Ability to work using own initiative but also as part of a close knit team.
  • Excellent levels of computer literacy, and be fluent in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Have a proactive attitude towards delivering construction works to a world-class standard.
  • Hold excellent communications skills and the ability to liaise with clients & subcontractors.
  • Possess good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a variety of tasks.
  • Possess a positive approach to learning, development and progression.
  • Have a flexible outlook towards hours worked (some out of hours working may be required).
  • Have working knowledge of current Health and Safety practice.

Alongside the above, further desirable skills for this position are:

  • Qualified at HNC level or above
  • Previous knowledge working with public sector clients
  • Previous knowledge working in the education sector (primary, secondary and/or adult)
  • Previous knowledge of BIM (Business Information Modelling)
