Business Analyst

EA Change Groups' Edinburgh based Life, Pensions and Insurance client requires a motivated Business Analyst to join a large a successful change team.

The successful candidate would be working on a large complex business change programme that looks at meeting customer's long term savings and retirement.

Responsibilities

To take ownership and responsibility for delivering the detailed business designs, processes and functionality, that support the business needs to the agreed time-scales and quality.

Analysis and Design

  • Be responsible for understanding, analysing and interpreting business requirements and needs.
  • Identify appropriate, effective and efficient solutions that ensure a consistent approach across the group.
  • Use personal influence to gain buy in from project team and key stakeholders within the business.

Development and Delivery

  • Be visible within the business and take ownership and responsibility for developing and delivering the detailed business requirements to support the solution.
  • Ensure requirements are appropriately challenged with the benefits and success criteria agreed and signed off by the business stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively within project to ensure solution is clear and development meets business requirements.
  • Support the project implementation.
  • Develop and execute test plans when required.
  • Support the delivery of successful projects within the company's End2End methodology

Skills required for the successful candidate

Business Analysis

  • Investigates operational requirements, problems, and opportunities, seeking effective business solutions through improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes.
  • Assists in the analysis of stakeholder objectives, and the underlying issues arising from investigations into business requirements and problems, and identifies options for consideration.
  • Identifies potential benefits, and available options for consideration.
  • Works with clients/users in defining acceptance tests.

Business Modelling

  • Conversant with techniques covering full range of modelling situations.
  • Models current and desired scenarios as directed.
  • Selects appropriate modelling techniques for meeting assigned objectives.
  • Gains agreement from subject matter experts to models produced.
  • Reviews resulting models with stakeholders and gains resolution to resultant issues.

Requirements Definition and Management

  • Demonstrates the ability to elicit and document functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Defines scope and business priorities for small-scale changes and may assist in larger scale scoping exercises.
  • Elicits and discovers requirements from operational management and other stakeholders.
  • Selects appropriate techniques for the elicitation of detailed requirements taking into account the nature of the required changes, established practice and the characteristics and culture of those providing the requirements.
  • Specifies and documents business requirements as directed, ensuring traceability back to source.
  • Analyses them for adherence to business objectives and for consistency, challenging positively as appropriate.
  • Works with stakeholders to prioritise requirements.

Business Process Improvement

  • Demonstrates the ability to identify process improvements and recommend solutions.
  • Analyses business processes; Identifies alternative solutions, assesses feasibility, recommends new approaches.
  • Contributes to evaluating the factors which must be addressed in the change programme.
  • Helps establish requirements for the implementation of changes in the business process.

Additional

  • The business analyst will be able to take responsibility for all analysis within small projects and will be able to support more Junior Analysts in larger projects.
  • The business analyst is responsible for creating and executing tests to ensure that solutions meet the necessary success criteria.
  • Demonstrates a good knowledge across a number of business areas and has a good understanding of the processes/systems required to support them.
  • Ability to clearly demonstrate understanding of the project life cycle.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
