Job Title: 1st Line Support Engineer

Location: Ely, Cambridgeshire (Please only apply for this role if you’re eligible to work and live in the UK as the company will not be paying any relocation costs)

Salary: £18,000

Job Type: Full Time, Temporary (6 months) - Monday-Friday 08:30-17:00 (40hrs/wk); you may be required to work outside of these hours dependant on IT activity.

The company offers state-of-the-art extrusion and thermoforming facilities generating a wide range of containers produced from CPET, APET, PP, MAPET® II, PP-EVOH-PE.

The company has a temporary opportunity for a versatile individual with IT skills to provide day to day support to site and support their current IT team.

Reporting to the Business Systems Process Analyst, you will provide general first line IT support to users either face to face or remotely resolving their IT issues and submitted Helpdesk tickets.

In this role you will work with predominantly with Microsoft Workstation Operating Systems and Microsoft Office products. You will provide support to the Companies networking environment, maintaining as required and network cabling.

The role will require you to install and configure computer software, diagnose and solve hardware/software faults, plan and carry out scheduled maintenance upgrades, repair equipment, replacing parts as necessary and record IT problems with their solution to create a reference document.

All activities must be carried out in line with Company and regulatory requirements.


You need to be experienced in and/or have knowledge of:

  • Windows Server 2008/2012 & Windows 10
  • Windows Active Directory
  • Installing software systems
  • Knowledge of IP Networking, routers, firewalls & VPNs
  • Diagnosing & repairing faults with PCs', printers and citrix
  • Corporate wireless setups eg: HP Aruba

Training will be provided for routines and procedures.

Ideal Candidate:

The company is looking for a positive, pro-active & motivated individual who has strong attention to detail and can demonstrate excellent communication skills, especially the ability to clearly communicate IT/technical issues to non IT/non-technical users.

You will have the ability to organise, prioritise and manage your tasks with consideration to user need and operational direction of the business.

As a multi-site support function travel to other sites may be required, therefore it will be necessary to hold a clean driving licence.
