Financial Accountant - IFRS 16

My client is a household name in retailing, and we are looking for a Financial Accountant to work on their IFRS 16 implementation project.

The role is a chartered accountant role to help in the IFRS 16, Leases project. The IFRS 16 project is tasked with obtaining all the lease data for Group entities, record this information in an IFRS 16 accounting system, and reconcile that information to current information.

The requested resource will be helping in the IFRS 16 work for Group and UK businesses, with specific tasks including:

• Comparison of rent expense, at a lease and cost centre level, between accounting systems and the IFRS 16 leases system
• Comparison of Operating lease commitments between current systems and the new IFRS 16 lease system
• Identifying the cause of differences and resolve any which relate to errors in either of the systems
• In cases where the lease data in the IFRS 16 system is incomplete or contradictory, review original lease documentation or other supporting information to confirm the correct data
• Performing any other reconciliations required by the business unit to confirm accuracy and completeness of the IFRS 16 system ie start/end dates, number of leases.

Skills

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA)
• Good understanding of current (IAS 17) lease accounting and appreciation of IFRS 16 is highly desired
• Experience in performing financial reconciliations and ability to interpret and interrogate data in order to identify cause of differences
• Strong excel skills and experience in using finance or accounting systems
• Ability to work independently, maintaining a clear audit trail of decisions, judgements and questions to be resolved through discussion with the wider business
