Your Responsibilities:
We are currently seeking an Automation Engineer following the approval to invest over Ninety Million pounds in our new flagship Aseptic Manufacturing facility here at the Barnard Castle site, which will be a highly automated environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity to utilise your automation engineering skills and develop your expertise within a world leading pharmaceutical company.
You will be joining a team of over 20 Engineers working within the Projects Department at our Barnard Castle site. There will be the opportunity to work across a broad range of innovative projects - contributing to our mission of helping people do more, feel better, live longer from day one, whilst developing and expanding your own experience and expertise.
Our Barnard Castle facility is a key secondary manufacturing site within the GSK network, and one of GSKs flagship New Product Introduction sites - bringing groundbreaking medicines to people all over the world at the right quality and the right price. At Barnard Castle, we proudly manufacture 38 different medicines in over 1500 pack variations to treat HIV, cancer, infectious diseases, migraines, psoriasis, dermatitis, asthma, cold sores and acne, to name just a few, which we supply to over 130 markets around the world.
As one of our Automation Project Engineers you'll be responsible for the delivery of new equipment and improvement projects across the Barnard Castle site. You'll be involved from project concept and project design stage, through to installation, testing and validation of new manufacturing equipment / processes.
You'll work across dynamic multi-skilled, cross-functional project teams (which may include engineering technicians, representatives from production, validation/quality, packaging or the New Product Introductions team), so the ability to build strong working relationships with great communication skills will be needed.
There is the potential for some international travel (for Supplier visits / Pre-Delivery Testing.
Dependant on the level of experience, the successful applicant may lead the automation system delivery for the new Steriles facility at Barnard Castle which will be based on a fully digital / paperless environment producing a range of sterile medicines as key part of the on-going investment program.
The facility / Process equipment automation platform is based on Siemens PCS7 hardware linked to Aspen / MERP systems.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Automation engineer to perform a lead role in this major investment at GSK . The successful applicant will work with the dedicated project team delivering this major investment with the future option to take the role as Senior Automation Engineer for the facility.

Why You?Basic qualifications:
Qualified in an associated Automation subject (eg Electrical/Control/Automation etc) ideally to degree level or working towards this.
Proficient in a number of the following areas:-
• PLC systems (Ideally Siemens S7/PCS7)
• BMS systems (TREND)
• A high level computer programming language.
• Principles of Automation Equipment, Computer validation, cGMPs and regulatory requirements
• Project planning, project management
• Database Technology and it's use within Automation Systems
• Control of Pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and processes
• Automation IT based networks including Ethernet / TCPIP
• International Engineering standards.
• Use of IT in an Automation Environment.
