Job Title: Research Assistant - Assessment
Contract Type: Full-Time, Fixed-Term Contract (12 months)
Salary: GBP23,500 - GBP29,400
Location: Cambridge


This this role can be classed as a secondment opportunity for internal candidates with line manager approval.

What it's about
The role of the Research Assistant is to work on research projects relating to assessment, including qualification evaluation and technical issues of assessment. The role will require the post holder to work on ad hoc ad hoc and planned projects, assisting with all aspects of research, including literature reviewing, research design, materials development, data collection and analysis as directed by senior staff. Such work can feed directly into policy discussions with the regulator, and other exam boards, and the grading of candidates.

What you'll be doing
  • Design and conduct small scale and standard research projects, and contributing to more complex research projects.
  • Reading and reviewing research literature.
  • Undertaking quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Producing research reports and giving presentations to disseminate research, and contributing to the implementation of research findings.
  • Contributing to the delivery of the summer examination series, by using appropriate technical assessment knowledge.

What we're looking for
We are looking for somebody who is keen to develop research skills and knowledge in educational assessment, who can demonstrate a flexible attitude to managing multiple tasks simultaneously. You will need to be able to express yourself clearly and accurately in oral presentations and written reports. You should have a relevant undergraduate degree, and desirably a postgraduate research-based qualification. Computer literacy is essential, and experience with the statistical packages SAS or SPSS would be an advantage, as would general programming skills. Experience of designing and conducting research projects would be an advantage. Knowledge of the educational or assessment environment would be desirable, but training in this area will be provided.
