The role

The Traffic Engineering team in North Tyneside is currently recruiting an Apprentice to support the daily needs of projects within the team. Following a thorough induction, the successful candidate will embark on an exciting 2 year programme where they will be exposed to a variety of disciplines and learn how to use a range of Autodesk products fluently, prepare calculations and become an integral part of the team.

The successful candidate will become knowledgeable in the principles of designing traffic, cycling and parking schemes, traffic signs and road marking layouts as well as developing a thorough knowledge of road safety design principles.

This exciting and rewarding apprenticeship will support the successful candidate to gain valuable skills, a recognised Level 3 apprenticeship qualification, a BTEC Level 3 in civil engineering and additional training such as health and safety and job specific training and mentoring. There will be a combination of weekly classroom learning and practical experience.

At the end of the scheme the apprentice could become an engineering technicians with the opportunity of achieving an engineering technician qualification with a civil engineering professional institution. After two years the successful candidate may have the opportunity to progress onto the civil engineering degree apprenticeship.

Location

This role will be based in our offices in North Tyneside. However, travelling may be required to other Capita offices or Client offices.

  • Production of CAD drawings
  • Developing and progressing schemes
  • Supporting the administration of projects
  • Carrying out consultations with stakeholders
  • Ensuring outputs meet the required standards
  • Meeting agreed deadlines
  • Maintaining drawing register
  • Working as a member of a team as well as on their own
  • Contributing to providing solutions to problems.
  • Working both in an office environment and on site.
  • Working with other teams in the Partnership as appropriate to gain rounded experience.

Essential Experience/Skills

  • Good communication skills
  • Competent numeracy and IT skills
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team whilst also having plenty of initiative.
  • Attention to detail and a desire to come up with practical solutions
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Capable of following instructions and adhering to policies and procedures
  • A minimum of five GCSEs grade C or above which must include English and Maths.

Remuneration Package

  • 37.5 hours a week
  • Annual leave - typically 23 days
