PART-TIME ROLE: LEARNING MATERIALS PROMOTION & FUNDRAISING

Background:

GardenAfrica is expanding in to what we believe is a new and exciting direction, and is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, committed to the values of GardenAfrica and agroecology. This new direction is the cumulative result of GardenAfrica's training programmes that have been successfully co-developed and implemented alongside agroecology specialists and training organisations in sub-Saharan Africa since 2001.

Agroecology, which continues to gain ground internationally to combat growing ecological disruption and social inequality, is often described as a science, a practice and a movement. GardenAfrica's work focusses on agroecological practice, which both informs and is informed by its science to promote a move towards a resilient, resource-conserving, and biologically diverse farming of the future - through which to deepen and widen the movement of agroecological farming practitioners.

However, despite the available change data and learning that exists from practicing farmers themselves, a key challenge we continue to face, as a sector, is to inspire confidence in agroecological systems that can stimulate wider uptake and deeper change. Increasing numbers of INGOs are adopting agroecology as their operational approach, pointing to an excited shift towards a more social-ecological future underpinned by agroecology.

At GardenAfrica we consider that one way in which shifts to an agroecological future can be inspired is through the promotion of more exciting learning materials, such as films that are presented by, and feature farmers themselves. Using a story-telling approach to enliven learning, we believe that it is possible to assist NGOs to deliver lively and interactive facilitation - providing much-needed visual and textural support to stimulate co-learning, while making room for discussion and experimentation that builds farmer confidence and adaptive capacity. During the facilitative and interactive piloting of GardenAfrica's first films, it was found that knowledge and information retention was increased by over 300%.

ROLE: Learning Materials Promotion & Fundraising

This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual with a passion for agroecology and film. Working closely with our small team, you will drive the research and distribution of materials to local NGOs, while building relationships with international NGOs that support programme delivery through networks of local NGOs.

You will also research and build relationships with other potential sources of funding.

The right candidate will have the knowledge, motivation and skills to grow diverse relationships that support, monitor and learn from delivery in Africa, identify opportunities for funding, and foster collaborative partnerships.

You will have excellent project and grant management experience.

Results oriented, you will have strong interpersonal skills together with a flexible and proactive approach and thrive in a dynamic environment.

You will grow demand for GardenAfrica's current films, and promote the development of further films in accordance with LNGO demand, and build links to INGO partnership and/or consortia programmes.
