We have a great opportunity at HMP Durham to join the education team as a Student Support Worker on a permanent, Full time (37 hours per week) basis.

The purpose of this role is to ensure, via appropriate assessment, that prospective and existing learners receive relevant and easily understood information regarding the learning and skills provision. Within a group or on a one to one basis, you'll facilitate learners to complete initial assessments in English and Maths to establish learning needs and set targets accordingly. You'll ensure learners understand what learning and development is on offer to them at the prison. You'll discuss the learning options with the learners and help them to make informed decisions about which courses they will attend. Working alongside Learning Support, you'll collate the initial information needed to establish and learning difficulties. You'll also get the learners up and running on the virtual campus provision. To do this successfully you'll need to:

Hold or be willing to work towards Level 2 qualifications in literacy and numeracy

Have relevant experience of conducting initial assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups

Have experience of working with groups of learner with a range of abilities.

Have experience of successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team
