Job Title: Senior Engineer - Installations and Product Safety

Location: London Bridge, London

Salary: £43,600 - £50,000

The organisation is a charity that exists to ensure that everyone in the UK understands the importance of electrical safety and that this remains a priority for consumers, trade and government.

They are currently seeking a Senior Engineer to join their Product Safety team to promote the role and objectives of the organisation and to support the Technical Director in the provision of guidance on the safe use of electrical products on behalf of all users of electricity, and to support the Charity's electrical safety and standardisation activities.

The role requires close liaison with the Product Safety Manager and provision of underpinning technical support to the Communications team on electrical product safety related matters to help ensure the on-going accuracy and credibility of the Charity's technical related output.

Reporting directly to the Technical Director, this is a senior position and requires the post holder to be an experienced engineer with proven knowledge of electrotechnical principles, including broad understanding of electrical product safety and compliance processes.

Key Requirements:

  • To support the Technical Director in the development and implementation of the Charity's business plan relating to electrical installations and products, whilst demonstrating and promoting the organisation's values
  • Provide appropriate underpinning levels of technical support to the Campaigns and Communications team.
  • To contribute to the development and management of projects on product investigation, research and screening and fee-earning consultancy services
  • To assist the Technical Director with the production of Board and Committee papers as required
  • To be Secretary to the Charity's Electrical Installation Safety Forum and Wiring Regulations Advisory Group
  • To produce authoritative technical material for publication, whilst ensuring all material is subjected to peer review
  • To respond to consumer technical enquiries, as appropriate
  • To undertake speaking and other public engagements to help raise the Charity's profile and reputation in industry and with the public in electrical installation and product safety related matters
  • To contribute to the development of UK, European and International standards - representing the interests of consumers on designated UK, European and International standards and other technical committees, as required
  • To support the development and maintenance of mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders in the electrical installation and product safety sectors
  • To undertake other duties as appropriate to their competence, as required by the Technical Director

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum of an HNC/Full Tech Certificate in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and completion of a recognised apprenticeship with corporate membership of the IET or similar professional body
  • Sound knowledge of product and installation (BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations)), related Codes of Practice and related Statutory Instruments
  • Broad understanding of safety issues associated with electrical products, including design and failure mechanisms, and risk assessment processes
  • Proven effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Good organisational and time management skills

Desirable:

  • Graduate level qualification to meet the requirements for Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer
  • Experience in project management in a cross disciplinary organisation
  • Understanding of how Third Sector organisations operate
