As a Developer you will be a member of the Core Team within the wider Technology Department. We’re starting an exciting journey to evolve our platform in both technology and capability. Our current core platform is written in Perl, supporting a Web front end and native iOS & android apps.

We’re looking for someone to join us to be a key part of this evolution, mentor and train others in NodeJS, whilst driving our platform forwards.

Responsibilities & Behaviours

We are looking for a passionate Node JS developer that is able to elaborate work, build features and ensure they are safely delivered and supported in production, as well as mentoring and teaching others in the process. The ideal candidate will also have experience helping to drive team continuous improvement, iterating and helping the whole to team deliver better.

We are looking for someone who:
Has experience building RESTful APIs using NodeJS
Is experienced delivering in an Agile or Product delivery environment - frequent deployments, continuous improvement and involvement in work from analysis through to delivery.
Has a passion for problem solving. A degree in relevant science, engineering or computing related subject is desirable but not essential. A passion to learn and develop personally aligned with a desire to create high quality products that are easy to test and maintain.
Cares about sharing knowledge and improving not only themselves, but everyone around them

Experience in any of these would be a real bonus:
Perl
Data storage and caching systems, such as relational databases (we use MySQL) or No-SQL solutions and Varnish, memcached and CDNs (CloudFront, Fastly, CloudFlare or Akamai).
Knowledge of Continuous Integration (CI) processes (Jenkins or CircleCI in particular).
Knowledge of TDD & BDD
Knowledge of OWASP or other security tools is very desirable.

What we believe in – and we’d like you to as well.
Focus on TDD & BDD, solutions that can be adapted to meet ever changing demands with reliability, repeatability and fast feedback cycles.
Agile/Lean environment - Product focussed scrum/kanban approach, extreme programming, and collaborative team structures that use data to drive decisions.
Product team delivery, allowing multi skilled teams to self-organise & deliver iterative solutions.
Active pair coding in the teams to share & improve skills and improve quality.
Striving for effective and efficient processes so we are always delivering value to our customers and ourselves.

What we offer:
Ongoing personal development and progression through mentoring and self-led & external training.
Flexible, fun and challenging work environment where innovative ideas are encouraged.
Central Manchester location in modern spacious offices.
Active social life outside of work with various events supported by the company.
Choice of development equipment and opportunity to influence team culture and approach.
Ride to Work Scheme, Workplace Pension, Gym Membership contributions, and other benefits.
Some occasional travel may be required between offices (Manchester, London, New York).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Must have NodeJS experience!
Extra Pointers:
We want someone outgoing, expressive, loves problem solving as well as coding and is a team player.
We want someone who will be a TECHNICAL LEAD - someone who wants to be writing the code - someone who can help mentor those less experienced.

KEY SKILLSL:
NodeJS
